Zero cost wide/telephoto shots!!

I've been looking for wide angle lens for the M2 because I loose so much space when I use the M2. But they are expensive and they aren't as fast as the 50mm lens......

However, I just realized today that I really don't need a wide angle lens!!!
because if I take off the adapter, the camera will have plenty of room to shoot wide angle shoots, right!!!
I know I won't have Shallow depth of field but even if I had a wide angle lens on the M2, the focal point is very short so I would have to focus to infinty anyway....
which means I won't have Shallow depth of field even when I'm using a wide angle lens correct?

also for telephot shots it's the same!!
if I take the M2 off and just use the zoom on the camera, I am zooming in so I will automaticly have Shallow depth of field even without the M2!!!!!

I just thought about this today so I'm not sure if it works 100% on all shots but I think this will save so much money (I mean, a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$)

has anyone done this???
Or is there something special if I use a wide/telephot lens on the M2 ?

I think he's serious....

Anyway, people do mix adapter/non adapter footage all the time. Either to compensate for a lens they don't have, vignetting, or light loss generally. Be sure to do plenty of tests to see what will match up and what won't.

its not stupid but he essentially came to the conclusion that he doesn't need to ever use the 35mm adapter (wide angle doesn't need depth of field, telephoto can be zoomed in) in the 35mm adapter section of DVXuser. An adapter certainly isn't necessary but i don't think zooming in is quite the same :)

not stupid at all

you will find times when working with the stock lens works, and times when it doesn't.
if you start getting paid work, depending on budget, you can always rent lenses. and for now, keep checking ebay and craigslist for used lenses. might not always be the best, but depending how cheap you get it for, might be good enough until you can afford better.

there are other characteristics of using a 35 adapter and lenses besides DOF. the camera's chip being as small as it is, compared to the size of 35mm film plane, changes what's in the frame. think about cameras with interchangeable lenses like the xl2. use one of Canon's adapter rings to use their 35mm lenses with the image going straight to the sensor like the stock lens would, the chips being 1/3" are only getting that small rectangle in the middle of what the lens is projecting back. On a 35mm film plane, you get more of the image.

so with the 35mm adapter, your camera zoomed in looking at the entire frame of what the lens projects. giving you all the characteristics of these lenses, not just shallow DOF.

sorry for the wordy response, I'm sure someone on here could have said it more efficiently.

thanks for the information. I really understand it
Now I know why XL2 users use 35mm adapter even when they can directly connect the 35mm lens on it. (that was a big wounder for me.....)
thanks
