Any benefit to the Apple Store Ext. HDD's VS Seagate Ext HDDs?

Or just style? I am assuming just style, but I was wondering if there was any other reason I might consider purchasing one of the external HDDs sold through Apple rather than just ordering a Seagate External HDD and formatting to HFS+?

None that I can think of. I use the WD MyBook external drives - they come in silver and match very nicely to my MBP at work and my Mac desktop at home.

Zander - jinx.

Well apple doesn't make their own externals. I think the main advantage to some of the externals they carry is that companies have great warranties. I've bought a couple Glyph drives from Tekserve in New York city. They have a three year warranty, they'll replace the drive for free if it goes down tomorrow, and they'll even provide data recovery if my drive malfunctions. A buddy of mine has a Glyph drive that had a problem with the board controller on the external and they sent him a new drive last week and rescued his data . Sure the drives are more expensive, but that's a pretty good service and insuranace I'm paying for.

the apple store drives are just more expensive.

That's it.

I like seagate. I have a stack of them and have never had an issue.

Buy the externals at the Apple store only if you like spending more money than you would anywhere else. You can get the same drive(s) at Newegg.com or such for $20-$100 cheaper.

You can get extremely cheap Seagate Freeagent Pro external drives from Best Buy. They had one on clearance last week; a 500GB for 39.99. Just go to fatwallet.com and click forums than Hot deals. They routinely post deals at Best Buy there.
