New Custom Nikon Mount For Letus Is Available

And it's the same with with every other adapter. Not just the Letus Extreme. Just they were the first to fix it.

Mirroring trudd: where's the complaint?

OK I thought, I may as well bite the bullet and get this new Nikon mount. ONly had my LEX a month but if its an improvement I may as well get it. Went to the site, stuck it in basket, went to checkout, $60. OK cool.

Then went to pay. Shipping. Either $87 or $91! No choice other than Fedex!

Hell I am happy to wait an extra week to receive it. This thing would cost no more than $10 to send to the UK by USPS international.

So instead if I want it, its going to cost me $150. Basically it rules it out because it ain't worth it due to postal costs.

Can't we have a sensible postal option for overseas customers who are not in an immediate rush to get it before it's posted?

Thanks

While I am unaffected by this uproar (I just ordered my Letus... having heart palpitations as we speak), Kholi is right in saying that we shouldn't/can't demand free upgrades from companies. I'm stoked that there is equipment available that isn't inflated to studio prices, is easy to use, and helps me to realize my dreams :) Starting a company, fabricating... R&D... office space - it all comes at a price.

Kholi ain't right dude...Kholi aint right...did you see the mattebox thread he all but told me to wear a rearview camera!

Hey man! Better watch your back, I'm seriously coming after your RR Mattebox if I'm not first fifty!

Has anyone tried Fatburger's Spicy Fat Chicken Sandwich yet? Man.

I hear you. That FEDEX price (and the extra tax) was almost a dealbreaker when I ordered my LEX.

I mailed Hien to ship it by USPS wich was about 20% of what FEDEX charges for the same job, but they ship FEDEX only because USPS mishandled some of the packages - wich may be right in the US, but no matter if they ship FEDEX or USPS at the US Airport the german DHL takes over anyway - :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Well biting a whole clip of runds seems normal in that business - especialy when you live in Europe.

Yes, I agree about the shipping choice. I have had major problems with FedEx over here, and now always try to avoid using them (and supporting/paying them).
That said, not sure how much cheaper other postal methods would charge for international shipping on the mount, as a number of times i've found myself buying multiple light weight items to justify the shipping total equaling or being more than the original item total - with other company products eg: lens support.

Unfortunately there's nothing else I need from Letus to make the postage costs seems less harsh. I have several lens supports, don't need rods or other adaptors. Guess I will just have to make do with the older mount. Shame.

On the FedEx note; I personally don't really trust the USPS to NOT loose something or mishandle it. They're website blows and to spite their claims, you can not track a package with it. FedEx I've had a FEW beefs with, via timing accuracy, but not too bad. But UPS, good ol' UPS. They are my friend and ally. I have yet to have anything not delivered on time, tracked easily, and always in pristine condition. They rock, and they're not THAT pricey for the quality of service you get.

But anyway, back to the thread topic... New Nikon Mount. When is someone here expecting theirs so we know when we can hear some legitimate comments?

The only affordable way to ship internationally is with the US Postal Service. And I get endless complaints of how long the process takes. Global "Priority" Mail takes anywhere from 14 to 21 days. (They say on their site that it's 4 to 7, but actual count from the time it leaves my hands to the time the customer reports receiving it, is usually at least 14 and as much as 21 days). But it's affordable; a global priority flat-rate envelope is about $10.50 to most any country.

Agree. I ordered the EX1 dvd from an ebay seller and he sent it USPS global mail. From the day he posted it to the day it arrived was 19 days.

But it arrived and cost him $10.50 to send. Happy to pay $10.50 and wait for the nikon mount to arrive.

Just had a thought. Because postage is so high to the UK, if anyone in the UK is considering buying a nikon mount (or any accessory for that matter) I would be happy to split postage with them. PM me if you are considering it.

Got the new nikon mount. This is what we have been waiting for. Rock solid finally!

Hi Philip:

I received my new Nikon mount yesterday, have not had time to break out the whole rig and put it on. How is there a new backfocus function? This just looks like a beefier version of the original mount. Have you re-set/checked your back focus with a focus chart with this new mount?

Just curious. I have an article deadline and cannot spare the time to set this all up and dial it in until the weekend or next week.

Thanks,

Dan

Comparison photos of the Letus Nikon mount.
Screen left: original Nikon mount.
Screen right: new Nikon mount.

I thought there was to be a better way to adjust backfocus but it's basically the same as before. Which is fine.
UPDATE: There are three screws at rear of the new Nikon mount. These can be used to offset the mount for backfocus adjustment. I haven't tried it yet myself but here to set the record straight.

There is also a thin lip on the back edge. I suppose if you just slightly loosen the screws to adjust the mount, that edge might keep it from falling out.

the key part you cant see in these photo is the inside. How the lens is held in place. Before it was two flimsy bits of metal. Now it is rock solid
