The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I completely forgot that I had started this thread; what's really weird is that I was just telling someone the other day how much I really enjoy the title.

Go figure! I guess it grew on me. Can't wait to check it out.

just saw this movie.

amazing movie. loved it. it was long, but i was so entranced by the performances i didn't care.

brad pitt's best acting ever. i wouldn't be surprised if he walks away with an award this year.

casey affleck. a million times better than ben. great performance by him

cinematography was amazing. the film was shot beautifully. great writing, directing, editing.

great great film. go see it
I agree that there was some good acting in this but someone should f*cking FIRE the editor. This movie was AT LEAST an hour too long. So many furtive looks...I just couldn't wait for the shooting...just get the damned thing over. I really wished it could have been a better movie. In a better director and editor's hands, it might have. This really just felt too self-indulgent.

I might add that this movie made A River Runs Through It look like a fast paced action movie...

i loved this movie but i think it was the photography that saved it from being average. i think i would have gotten bored if it wasn't so dang beautiful.

I agree. I talked to my writing teacher who saw both the early and final cut of this film and he said the film actually felt longer when it was shorter. The problem with the film is it's directed slow. The performances are slow and if you cut up that pace it screws up the flow. Besides that train robbery scene this film was a snooze. I liked the last third, but everything leading up to that was tough to sit through.

just saw this. casey affleck really drew on my sympathy. had me in tears by the end. big, salty, manly tears i should say. length wasn't an issue for me. i liked the pace of most scenes. but i did have an issue with the dips to black. the predictability of their use was a bit tedious... didn't feel organic, felt imposed.

I just recently watched this movie and I must say it was absolutely stunning. The acting was a lot better than I expected (especially from Casey). The entire thing was long but I really didn't mind (even though there were some really weird slow parts in it). Roger Deakins did an absolutely amazing job with this one. Simply put one of the most beautiful films of the year.

I rented this movie a couple of weeks ago and really struggled to stay awake. Granted I was tired when I started it, I fell asleep twice and missed quite a bit, but just couldn't get into it. I thought the performances were really good and the cinematography was great, but the story just didn't seem to be going anywhere.

I liked it, although I will agree that it was S-L-O-W. You'd think in telling a story with a Jesse James basis that it would be a little faster paced?!?

Deakins' cinematography sure did help this film.

The movie itself, I thought, was very well made. Extremely creative cinematography. It uses some weird lens effects that creates like a blur vignette, which I thought was really creative for a western/drama. Really good acting, really good story. It was kind of slow, but I liked it.
