Hi guys,

I currently have a cheap tv set hooked up to my PC through an old minidv camera.

My video making business is starting to get more work so I want to get a proper production monitor so I know (once calibrated) what I see is what my clients get. At the moment it I never know if my footage will look the same else where.

I was thinking of purchasin a JVC TM-H150CGE 15" high res monitor. THe pal version. It seems good value for money which is a selling point and the colour reproduction is meant to be great for the price.

But how do I hook a production monitor up to Premiere Pro? I think what I need is a black magic type card that outputs BNC but I'm not sure?

What is the cheapest windows compatiable card that can output to this monitor?

I'm going cheap because I hope to upgrade to an apple mac pro at some stage.

-Thanks!

The Blackmagic Design Cards are awesome, I've got the Decklink HD Extreme, awesome. and YES, you need something like that.

if I'm not mistaken, (correct me if I'm wrong please) THE JVC TM-H150CGE IS NOT HI-DEF, it can only do PAL (720x576) or NTSC (720x480). 4:3,16:9. Hi Res and Hi-Def is not the same thing.

so if you're only doing SD work, and not going to do HD anytime soon fine, otherwise look at another monitor maybe?

Thanks Derrick SA,

I was thinking is CRT the way to go? I know it's meant to be better at colour reproduction but are they becoming a thing of the past and being replace by HD LCD broadcast monitors?

As far as HD goes at the moment I only use a dvx100 but I do make independant films and at one point I may end up hireing a camera like a hdcam so it probably is a good idea to go HD. The price is my problem.

Any suggestions on good quality CRT or LCD screen?

Yeah, lot of people still feel that LCD is not ready yet, but then I wonder why you see them in so many making-of clips.

I agree though they are expensive, I don't think you get a HD Crt screen, but I COULD BE WRONG, I DON'T KNOW.

You could always pick up the intensity pro, and a second hand CRT of ebay, use that till you go over to HD, and save in the meantime for the HD solution.

No one manufactures CRT High end Broadcast Monitors anymore if that means anything....

My outside post house has discovered a Sony Broadcast LCD Monitor that they are now happy to connect to their Spirit Telecines for Critical CC /Grading work.

EXPENSIVE but.....

For me I use Sony pro CRTs 9" and 20" and Sony consumer HD LCD TV/Monitorand a Panasonic HD LD (1700W?) monitor.

I have learnt to read / judge them all in conjunction with waveform monitors. Close enough for me and my clients.

One problem I find is inconsistency from the Broadcasters. eg Satellite vs std broadcast. NO way around that.
