Movie studios and the recession

I was just watching ABC World News and they were talking about how companies and corporations across the nation are preparing for, what appears to be, an inevitable economic recession.

The report mentioned companies making job cuts, or perhaps just not filing currently open positions. And that got me thinking.... how does Hollywood handle recessions? I mean, I'm sure on the business end of the studios (management, marketing) they may make cut-backs. But in terms of production.... they don't really start making LESS movies, or spending less ON movies, right? Or do they? I was just curious and not sure of the answer.

Perhaps some of our more well connected members can comment.

Hollywood is typically called recession proof. People always need their entertainment. However, in these times of increasing corporate consolidation, with movie studios being part of a larger entity, they'll probably feel a pinch somewhere.
