Who's going to NAB?

With Apple and Avid pulling out I considered not going. But we made our reservations and are all set to go. I am mostly looking forward to seeing Panasonic's offerings up close and personal. I will be buying the HVX200 (finally) unless I'm swayed by something.

Any other HVX200 user's going?

It's too bad Apple & Avid have bailed but there are still a tremendous amount of
companies with wonderful products for this years NAB.

I plan on attending. Why not! I live here and like you, am looking forward to seeing what Panny
has new before I make my final decision on the HVX-200.

Not going. And I really was toying around with attending this year.

If I'm correct, it's like $150 just to get in*. I don't want to have to pay for the privelege of seeing gear I might buy. (& the company I work for wouldn't flow me a pass) I'm not surprised AVID and Apple pulled out to be honest.

I guess when I can gather information on great sites like DVXuser, it makes less sense to travel to Vegas. Instead, I'm using the money to go to San Diego and LA. Skateboarding & beach > desert & gambling.

And Take2, if I may sway you....cough cough XH-A1.

*correct me if I'm wrong.

is panny announcing anything anyway? the hvx200a?
They've already pre-announced a few things: a new monitor, the DVX replacement (HMC150), a little AVC-HD shoulder-mount camera, and some other things like a remote pan/tilt camera unit. No mention of an HVX200a yet.

Thats good to know for future reference. Someone was suppossed to be working on one of those free passes for me. Never came through, though.

W/o potentially opening floodgates, can anyone recommend any vendors that might give out passes?

Any of the majors that you may have a connection to (i.e purchased equipment) In the past Fujinon has offered me passes after I bought a lens for our SDX900, Panasonic has been good to us, Avid....the key is asking the people you buy a lot of equipment from.

Even without that, simply contacting the company of equipment that you use may be all you need. Think about what you have, lights, computer, editing, cameras, lenses....these companies owe you!

If there's a year I 'd like to go to NAB it's this years. Scarlet and the new Pana will be there...drool...

I do some casual work for one of the local exhibition design companys. theres a chance they will be doing the tiffen stand this year, and if they do, I will be there to stick it up for them...

I'm going and this will be my first NAB. I've been to other trade shows before like SIGGRAPH, but nothing as big as NAB. I would have liked to see Avid there, but am looking forward to seeing what's new in the P2 world and what Adobe might have cooking.

At SIGGRAPH there are always lots of after hours parties and user groups put on by the vendors. Is that true for NAB as well, and if so does anybody know who puts on the best ones and how to get tickets to them?

BTW I got my free pass for this year from an ad in videography magazine.

Ill be there this year, first time at NAB but i have been to many conventions before.

Already got my Press Credentials, and will book the hotel soon.
