We have shipping news on the microMatteBox. This matte box has exceeded our already high expectations, and we believe this product will change the game in what you can expect from a mattebox in this price range or anything close to it.

We encourage you to read all of the following details.


Shipping Schedule

The microMatteBox will be released in two phases. The first phase will be a limited release of 50 microMatteBoxes, and is targeted for delivery in late December of this year. The second phase will be a general release that will cover most if not all of the remaining reservations, and will subsequently be generally available for ordering and purchase. The second phase is targeted for availability in the January/February timeframe.


Reservation holders & confirming your reservation

On November 14th (next wed) we will contact the existing microMatteBox reservation holders in the order we received the reservation. Reservation holders will have the opportunity to confirm their reservation by placing a $100 deposit, which will be applied in full to the microMatteBox price when it is released. Each reservation holder will be given 4 days (96 hours) to respond and confirm his or her reservation by placing the deposit. If the reservation holder declines, or we do not hear from you within that timeframe we will move on to the next reservation holders, until the 50 reservations with deposits are filled. Each deposit will receive a unique reservation number.

A note on delivery dates and product specifications

Assuming everything goes as planned, the first shipment of the microMatteBox will hit in December: “assuming everything goes as planned”. If we encounter any production hiccups it may result in a shipping delay. We will not compromise the quality of the microMatteBox, and therefore the ship date is subject to change. If you have a production and you need the matte box by a specific date, do not place a confirmed reservation.

We will provide regular updates to reservation holders on production status and the shipping schedule until the microMatteBox is released.

Also, we present the product specification as it currently stands, but it is subject to change (a standard disclaimer for any product that has not yet been released). In general, if things are to change, it will most likely be an improvement.


Introductory Pricing

We are putting the finishing touches on the pricing, so will publish the final pricing on Nov 14th. We should around our original target pricing. The base configuration will include:

· Lens shade
· Three rotating filter stages
· Three filter trays that will support 4x4 or 4x5.65” filters. Future filter trays will be available for larger filter sizes
· French Flag
· One 16:9 matte

Side wings and an additional flag (for bottom) will be offered as add-on options, available in the same timeframe.

We have updated the microMatteBox page on our website to reflect the latest product information. Prior to sending out the notice we will have an updated FAQ with answers to common questions we receive between now and then.

Here's to hoping I'm one of the first 50. Congrats - looks fantastic so far! One important techy question - have you figured out what the max filter ring attachment size this MB will take?
 
Okay, so here's a question. Will the DVX lens fit far enough into the mattebox if it is equipped with the micro follow focus?

I mean, what's the biggest lens diameter this MB will take? i.e. I have a wide able with a 102mm filter thread - will this MB fit?

Hello Everyone

This is an update on the microMatteBox. This is the first of what we expect are regular updates on the status of the microMatteBox. Please take the time to read this completely, as it answers many questions we are often asked.

New Feature - Native 19mm rod support

We will be offering a native 19mm support arm as an option for microMatteBox. Red folks sure know how to rally around something they want. Timing is still being worked out but we hope to have it available in time for the first release. The 19mm option will cost a bit more, how much more we don't yet know, but you know Redrock philosophy so it will be reasonably priced when compared with our target price of the base configuration (around $500 US).

Release Date

This new feature will push the release date back a bit... how far we don't yet know, but shouldn't be too much. Our target is still to deliver the first 50 units sometime in December, and most or all of the remaining reservations and general product availability in the January/February timeframe. We again want to reiterate that this is a best case timeline and is subject to delay. Please do not confirm a reservation with us if you absolutely require one by a specific date.

Reservations

We will be contacting the first 50 reservation holders to confirm their reservation. This email will have this ticket in it:

Since we haven't announced final pricing (just waiting for a few more things to come in) we won't yet be requiring a deposit, so just a response is needed . When we have the pricing publicly available we’ll collect deposits at that time. If a reservation holder declines, or does not respond within four days from our email notification, we will move to the next reservation holder and offer the slot to them… and so on until all 50 slots are filled. Also, there is only one microMatteBox per reservation at this time.

We will only be taking deposits for the first 50 slots. The remaining reservation holders will have priority in ordering a microMatteBox before they become generally available. If you did not receive an email asking to confirm your reservation and showing the ticket, you are not in the first 50 reservations. Please allow the next 12-24 hours for this email to arrive.

They're supposed to be making a shipping announcement this week, but so far nothing. They announced the reservation list and emailed folks a "golden ticket" in December and since then, nothing.
