There are thousands of scenes in the Hollywood pop movie. Who designed out all shot? Especially some very complicated shot.
And if directors do not design the storyboard , and other people(DP) come to design , is it allow?

Every film is unique, as is each filmmaker’s approach. A director such as M. Night Shyamalan typically plans each and every shot beforehand and the film is shot verbatim to his design. Other filmmakers are more collaborative. Roger Deakins addresses this with is experience with shooting No Country for Old Men with the Coen Brothers and Assassination of Jesse James with Andrew Dominik. In the October 2007 of American Cinematographer magazine. The latter preplan there films and allow very little variance, while Dominik worked with Deakins on determining shots. Again, every situation is unique.

I'm trying to rely less on storyboards now as I've gotten a smidge mroe experienec shooting shorts. I usually try to match whats on the paper and that can be an issue because sometimes I'll try to do a perfect job macthing whats on paper.

I think its important to find what works for you.

I still don`t understand . All of "big" hollywood movie director desing every shots himself? In "Apocalypto" Mel Gibson design every shot ? Is there any kind of job for "scenes desing"?

I only like to use them for complex shots and sequences to help better explain it to my cast and crew. I usually do it with a 3D app like Cinema4D or I work closely with an artist to sketch out my ideas.

:laugh:sorry, I`m talking about "who desing shots" ,not "how to make storyboard".Is Production Designer doing this job?

I don't think there is a completely right answer to this question. It depends on the relationship between the director, the DP, and the Production designer, and whoever else is providing input into the production. I want to say that typically, it is a collaboration between these three people when it comes time to decide, "Ok, so how is this production going to look.

The question becomes a lot more complicated because there are other factors such as actor blocking, set design, lighting, etc. It's really up to the crew to work together to plan these things. The responsibility doesn't lie solely with one person, It's more of a team effort.

fss, The Production Designer(PD) is mainly responsible for the set, locations, conceptual art, storyboards, costume and make up. But actually, the production illustrator who was hired by PD draws the boards. Well, Could the Director do the storyboards.? Yes if he'd prefer to. The director might draw with stick figures for roughing ideas then sending them out to the storyboarder for finishing.

Thank for everybody's answer. The answer is more and more clearer to me.Making movie depends on team work.Really wanna work with people who have this notion.

i sometimes storyboard myself, or i'll collaborate with my DP. i don't draw very well so i try to find someone who can actually do a good job. my production designer and DP did the storyboards for "Amore". I checked em out, and gave the OK. then we shot the storyboards, but we also changed some things around because we got new ideas for shots when we were on set.

its all different like everyone else said.
