The IndiMatte...Resistance is futile

I got mine two weeks ago. Not sure why it isn't on the website yet though. You should email Tim. Meanwhile, here's a couple of pictures of my rig with the indiMATTE... I believe that my unit is the same as the Major's (page 4 of this thread)

would you be able to do me a favor please, and measure the distance between the top of the rail and the bottom of the barrel of the lens?

im hoping its 3 inches or less. Also, can you get side flags for hte mattebox?

Tim said that side flags were going to be available soon. So you know, I had to use some shims to raise my M2 (and then also my camera) so that the center of the matte aligned to the center of the lens. Kind of a pain, but it works now.

So it's about 4 inches from the top of my rods to the center of the matte. This is due to the swing-away feature which adds some height.

damn, my setup now i can't go more than 3 inches...

For the price, i wonder if its worth getting one of these and then goingthe DIY route to remove the swing away feature to accomodate mysetup.

I am happy with it at the moment, though I have not tested it in the field yet. I am curious to see how the filter trays do when loaded with glass, as they are a bit on the flimsy side. Swing away function is very cool though. I'll post something longer once I have used it on a few shoots (soon).

It is only $350 Zander. Definitely a good deal.

Check out the Cinevate matte box, if you haven't already. Very similar design, but without swing-away. I think you would have trouble undoing the swing away, but if you are very handy, maybe not.

The trays themselves or the slots/tray holders? Would it be possible to get other, sturdier trays?

can someone post pics in detail of how the swingaway mechanism is made? I notice no one had took a picture of the left side of the mattebox, which is where the swing away hinge is at. How does it look like?

Ok, you can see here that there is a bolt on the left side of the matte box where the swivel point is. When the matte box swings into place, it is held by a magnet.

Also, PaPa, you can see the measurement I took from the top of the rails to the center of the matte. There are different sized foam donuts that come with it too - the one shown fits my Nikons (52mm thread size lenses).

that distance looks doable!

ill take a measurement of mine, let me know, since you know your unit well, if this measurement looks like it oculd work!

Ah, just re-read your post. You wanted to know distance to the BOTTOM of the lens barrel. It's about 4 inches to the center, and as you can see it's a little less than 3 inches to the bottom, if you are using a lens of the same size (52mm diameter). And of course the matte box adjusts for different heights - I have it just above the minimum setting, so you should be good.

I *think* so. I'm sure that Tim will work with you if you need to make minor adjustments, but you should be able to do it on your own, maybe with a set of shims.

How's that friction wheel work for you? I have my lenses geared. Also, what is that piece that connects your two sets of rods? Where can I get that?
