Time When Reality Tv is Worth Watching

I find this show to be the absolute worse TV has been... ever. Worse than the simple life.

I don't understand the concept either. They play it as a game show, you can win money for answering questions, however it's a lose lose situation. The individual playing can either answer it as true, and get the money, or they can answer it as false, in which case the audience and family will still know if she's lying or not, leaving the only good answer to be the true one. Essentially no one will give a wrong answer, because either way they'll know the truth (which leaves me bewildered as to why she got the last one wrong, perhaps she was confused).

So it's literally a show where you're paid to tell the truth, but for some reason acts like a game show.

Not to mention that I thought I heard lie detectors aren't 100% accurate, and there are always inconclusive tests... so how can this show actually work?

As for this one... what a b****.

Mythbusters tried to beat the lie detector test and could not do it. Its not just the detector though, having an experienced test administrator is a big part of it.

I've never watched that show... but I have a hard time believing that polygraph tests are that foolproof.

After a quick google, I landed on THIS site, for instance.

I don't know anything about them, but like I said, how could a polygraph possible be that good?

Anybody care to shed some light? or have opinions?

I think this is fake. Maybe if there was a lie detector hooked up right next to her it could work...

but the fact that ratings and the money the show owes has to do with the correct answer, it's reasonable that there are some producers sitting in a back room deciding what happens on the show.

it wouldn't work having her hooked up to a lie detector while they film infront of an audience because they have to have a controlled room to administer the test. It would be good to film them taking the test though.

I dunno. I think The Swan is about as morally bankrupt as reality TV has gotten. You take people w/major self esteem issues, cut them up so they think they are pretty then compete them against one another in a beauty pageant just so their self image can be smashed again.

This show, on the other hand, takes greedy f*ckers who think they can beat the system and gives them enough rope to hang themselves with. Just going by this YouTube clip example, the best thing that could've happen to the husband is to have his lying whore of a wife go on this game show. The tape of this show has be just about the best divorce material short of footage of her boinking' another guy.

I don't think that would fly w/standards and practices though. The game show scandals of yesteryear means there are lots of rules in place in shows like this to ensure every contestant has a fair shot at winning and nothing is rigged or predetermined. A show producer w/a finger on the "true/false" button would be a big no-no I'd imagine.

the show is fake. scripted. i dont care what anyone says...this is about as real as the hills.

now project runway. that is good reality television.

It's the combination of Jerry Springer and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.... but without the class of Regis.

Definitely fake. Anything that has commercials (or ratings) can never be trusted 100%. :)

Also, that woman and her "husband" are not believable as a couple. At all. They need to fire the casting Director.

Yeah. honestly, you know how many times you'll come across actors who have been in some sort of "reality tv"? You'll look at their resume and ask them about it, and they'll flat out say, "well the catch is that it's fake".

I just don't trust reality TV. I wouldn't be surprised if it's fake. Think about it. Most people that sign up would be either the stupid ones, or the ones that are goodie goodies that don't even have a parking ticket. Some of these people seem intelligent, and yet they know every facet about their lives, and some of them seem absolutely terrible.

If I were a producer, I'd either only take the most interesting people, or I'd just fake it for more ratings.

You're right, I forgot about the Swan. Then there's Joe Millionaire, not as bad as these ones, but still up there.

Hmm... they're all fox shows, coincidence?

As for the validity of lie detectors, there are many cases where polygraphs are inconclusive. I've even seen these on shows like 48 hours, or on cold case files, where the polygraph test might have ended up inconclusive. I also heard on a show (yes, not the most reliable source, it's a TV show for crying out loud), but they threw out the number that polygraph tests are only 60% accurate. They could be wrong, but part of me feels that it's at least partially true, but feel free to correct me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygraph#Reliability

So the 60% I heard on the show wasn't made up. But there are a few numbers. Read through it. However it's obvious that it's not 100%, and they even list a few spies that have beat the lie detector.

Reading through it some more, studies seem to keep proving that although it's better than chance, it's not perfect, and the reliability goes down for investigations, or something along those lines.

It even says that in some European countries they don't accept polygraph tests as evidence because of it's unreliability.

"FOX attitude" has it's good and it's bad sides. The reality shows are the bad side, but Married w/Children, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and presenting sports in a more entertaining fashion (better pre/post game shows, slick gfx, etc.,.) are some of the things that make up the "good side".

And to revisit my previous post, yes I wouldn't be surprised if the entire show was faked. When I posted earlier I was just thinking along the lines of a producer manipulating the "thumbs up/thumbs down" results to keep actual contestants (not actors) from winning the money.
