getting a business line/voicemail

I'm currently in the research phase of starting a small video production company and I'm not sure what I should do about getting a business phone line. My cell phone is still an Indiana # from when I moved a few months ago. Right now I'm living in San Diego where I would have a 619 area code, but could possibly be moving to another part of town in a few months that has an 858 area code (and moving somewhere outside of San Diego is a possibility). All that being said, if and when I create the company I plan on getting letterhead stock, bus cards, etc. and want to keep the same phone number on there, no matter what area code I'm living in. I've looked into 1-800 number forwarding and it seems that costs money for every call/minute and I'm not wild about that.

So my question is what is my best bet for being able to keep the same phone number for my business no matter where I'm living? Is it possible to get a phone number that only goes to voicemail and then I can call back on my land line? Should I get a cheap cell phone and use it only for voicemail?

I'd go with a a business cell with that area code.
Cheaper than business packages and mobile... which comes in handy for the self employed.

Vonage offeres 1800 numbers at a pretty decent rate. I have used them for my house phone for the past 2 years and I have never had problems.

I second Matthew's Vonage recommendation. I've been using them for the last several years and am very pleased. All the features you need, your primary number can essentially be in any area code you want it to be and virtual numbers anywhere else are super cheap. Want to have local phone numbers in New York, London, and Hollywood? Vonage gives you those for just a few dollars a month each and they'll all ring to your desktop phone. I really like the voicemail messages to my email feature!
