Mac User disgruntled that he has to give up Vegas

Ok, so because I no longer have a PC ,I haven't been able to edit on Vegas anymore, which makes me incredibly sad.

I've been trying to figure out which editor I should get - Final Cut Studios 2 or Avid Media Composer (I can get both for about $400 through my university).

Which one is closest to the Sony Vegas I know and love? I really don't want to have to dual boot my system, or else I'd just do that, but I like having only one to work with - it makes my life so much more simple.

Are there any rumors of a mac version coming out ever? :crybaby:

Install windows on a second partition and install vegas there. Do not use emulators like vmware or parallels for video editing, just reboot to it when you need to edit.

I have considered that - however it is highly inconvenient... I have Andromeda (the DVX mod now defunct), and currently, only one computer. It is important that I keep my hard drive free for recording purposes and if I had a computer just for editing I would do that in a second, but I don't.

Yea - using an emulator would be terrible.

I'd say FCP over PP CS3 on the mac. I'm not a huge PP fan but it runs well on the pc under the Axio hardware. By itself on the mac, I think FCP is better. All opinions though. I would do what you can to get an Intel mac though if you can. I run Vegas on the PC side and FCP / PP CS3 on the OSX side - love the combination. If emulation software dealt with firewire and dual monitors better, I'd actually go that route. I think VMware Fusion is as quick as native Win XP just has too many limitations right now.

It makes a ton of sense, if you want to use P2, or if you really like After Effects, or you like tight integration with PhotoShop...

Why must there be a constant FCP/MAC Cultish Propaganda angle ?

Why ?
Because the commercials say it's better and the machine was 3 times the price of a PC, so it has to be better, right?:)

I have nothing against macs and FCP. It's a great setup, but the undying loyalty does get to be a bit much sometimes.

Gee, I like all of those things and use them every day. I have no problems at all with the workflow.
And that's fine. But it is not equivalent, not by a long shot. Read the workflow docs, or download the trials. I'm not saying you can't do it through FCP, but I'm saying it's far better integrated through the Adobe apps themselves.

It's just like tape vs. tapeless. People still say "I shoot all the time on tape, I have no problems with the workflow." Fine for them, but it doesn't exactly make that the equivalent of tapeless, does it?

I agree the CS3 is hard to beat. It is a multimedia soltuion as opposed to just video solution for both Mac and PC.

Is anyone here using PP CS3 on a Mac? I'm not knocking Premiere - It's not my first editor of choice and the whole Adobe integration IS better than Apple's - I'm just not that impressed with Premiere on the Mac - doesn't seem to be near as snappy. I'm fine with AE / PS but not being a P2 user - I can't see the Mac Adobe benefit aside from integration. Still runs better on the PC.

Bottom line is it comes down to what suits your needs.

I've used Premiere Pro 2 before - I found it incredibly frustrating. I dunno if it was just my unfamiliarity with the program, but the fact that the wave form on the audio wouldn't move along with the clip when I moved it (just an outline of the clip) made me want to kill something.

Is CS3 that much better?

Not using FCPro on a Mac makes no sense...
I like how Vegas handles better. I'm already very comfortable with it, and it's audio tools are awesome.
