Anybody selling skater dollies?

So here's some footage ...

search youtube for "Coming to Life - Part 1"

HVX200 + Letus Extreme + Zacuto Studio Package + Nikon 50mm 1:1.4
shot in 720p

Music by John Williams - Jurassic Park Theme

no lights, no prep, no strings attached ... just put the cam on the Red Skater and hit REC ...

I'm not a DOP, this was my first time playing with a skater dolly.
I'm not an editor, just had some fun in FCP. There is no CC, besides the day-to-night shots.
Vignette is left on purpouse ... I like that look.

Tomorrow I'll be on a trip to Warsaw ... let me know what you think

cheers,

Edi

really nice and smooth... incredible what a great feel such a small (?) device adds!
fantastic! :)

Is this your boy? He's cute... :)

Thanks for sharing the footage!

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more from you!

Hehe, indeed Max, that's my son !

And here you can see us play while filming the dinosaurs ...

Using the skater is highly addictive !!! Stay away or you will never shoot anything without it ! ;-)

It measures 48 x 40.5 x 8 cm (on it's highest point, including the camera mount, with the rocker horizontal) - that's a bit bigger than its only rival out there ...

cheers,

Edi

Hey edi!

nice making of, your setup looks impressive... very impressive :)

Is it also possilbe for some even lower shots to get rid of the rocker and place the camera directly on the skater?
Also is there an option to screw a fluid head onto the skater, instead of the rocker?
That s two very nice options p+s is offering.

Also:
Are the wheels easily interchangeable?
How much does it weigh all in all (without camera of course)?

When are you aiming to ship some of the units at what price (feel free to pm me on that :) )?
I'd love to go for one of those... :)

Max.

Hey Max,

Yes, of course you could place the camera direclty on the skater and we thought about the possibility to replace the rocker by a simple plate, which would allow mounting any fluid head directly onto it.

It's probably going to offer options between Manfrotto (Bogen) or Sachtler plate on the rocker and eventually no rocker at all, in favor of the neutral mounting plate.

Any wishlist or proposals from you guys are highly appreciated and welcome !

It is quite heavy and quite expensive as you see right now, but we are planning a complete reshaping with added functionallity, while offering an unbeatable price/quality ratio.

Hopefully, we will ship the first small series by early March.

Are you guys going to the NAB ?

regards,

Edi

P.S. Max, you'll have Serial #00004 ! The first three have been reserved before the prototype was ready.

Thanks Edi!

All the stuff sounds good, just a list of thoughts for the skater:

- easily accesible wheels (+ easily interchangeable)

- possibility to place a tripod on the skater (don't know if that's realistic, but I saw that online somewhere. They did it with the P+S one and it seemed to work)

There is some other more fancy stuff I can think of, but I think that takes it too far.

You said it's pretty heavy, how much?

Weight makes it smoother, but I love those shots where the first do a circulare track around something and then go handheld. That's pretty nice and a big advantage of the Skater.
Would be good if you were still able to do that...

What else do you guys plan to implement? :)

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Max.

Hehe,

Ok, Joseph ... you're in for #7 ... but let us first finish R&D and announce the final price.

In less than a month we will have the final version, ready to be sold.

stay tuned,

Edi

Hi Edi5- check your pms. I am watching your making of video now, looks like guys are having fun. Looking forward to the final version.

Dear friends,

I have bad news.

I am very sorry to announce that after extensive research (that has cost me a lot of time and money) I have come to the conclusion that I can not sell my version of the skater.
The patent is very clever and there is no way around it. I just have to take off my hat in front of Mr. Cramer who invented the Mini Skater and received the Academy Award this year for technical innovation.

So the Red Skater will remain a prototype for ever ... here you can have a look at the final annodised version, with brake, here:

if you can afford it, go buy the real thing from p+s technik

I sent you a pm Edi, thank you very much for all your hard work. Your final skater looks great.

Cheers,

Andrew
