Bellows and macrophotography with 35mm adapters

Hi,

Im really interested in trying to do some macro shooting. Does anyone have any experience with 35mm adapters and bellows + macrophoto lenses?

Ive been looking at some interesting pictures here:

Do you think a setup of EX1, LEX, bellows + canon fd macrophoto lenses would work? Or will there be issues with vignetting or ground glass?

Yes, I would definately want the 35mm f2.8.

Does anyone have any footage or first hand experience?

Why exactly do you need a 35mm adapter for macro? With my hv20 I can focus at under 3cm, and at that range with full open aperture the DOF is about an inch.

Looks nice! I wonder if Im just gonna plunge for the bellows+lenses. Ill start looking into ebay etc. deals.

I like the look and bokeh of prime lenses. You're right that its not such big of a difference. But Im after those little differences :)

i have bought sigma 105 2.8 macro ex series lens, but still didn't get my letus, so i can't try... but i'm sure it will look good :)

I've used the LEX on HVX with bellows + canon fd lenses.. worked great, but you gotta have some fast primes, f4 probably won't work.. and you loose even more light with the bellows...

Oh wow! Looks really nice. Do you mean you can use normal lenses? You dont need macro lenses? I have some really fast lenses, 85mm f1.2L, 50mm f1.4, 35mm f2. Do you think these would work?

What lenses did you use on these shots?

Sami

Keep in mind that on some adapters (eg: letus) you can zoom in on the Ground Glass without much/any negative effect on the image. That'll let you get a bit 'closer'... or at least make your subject bigger :)

ps: An 85mm 1.2 = jealous :(

I don't have any macro lenses :)
Used a canon FD 50mm 1.8 on all these shots, so those lenses of yours probably will work. I also tried a 85mm 1.8 which worked pretty good too, so your 1.2 will probably work out great.

Made a little test using a toilet paper roll as my bellows :D

Looks awesome! The first pic is my table lamp, looks so dirty! Second one is a 2 euro coin. In real life thats about 1cm (less then half an inch). Its shot with the Canon FD 50mm f1.4.

Wowwee! Im getting them bellows for sure!

I'm a big fan of macro work. I have a 60 and a 100 macro. Both have 1:1 reproduction scale and can get within inches of the subject. A true macro lens helps with clarity when the image is blown up, but you can still get fantastic results with other tools. Heres a list of what I use:

-Reversal Ring. Has camera mount on one side and threaded on other. Basically reverses your lens around.
-Reverse Coupler. Threaded on both sides and lets you attach another lens on the front of your currently mounted lens. Try a 25mm on the front of a 300mm.
-Bellows. Gives a variable adjustment of Macro by sliding the lens toward and away from the camera.
-Extension Tubes. A fixed extension available is different sizes that performs similarly to bellows.

Each provides a different mode of achieving Macro and each has its + and -. I like the effect of a moving bellows shot. Some of these effects combined with other things are great for music videos.
