very low tripods

Yup, you guys got it right. I also have the Miller Solo DV tripod, that is one of the great things about it, it can go from touching the ground, all of the way up to around 72" in height, it's one of the few tripods that can handle both extremes.

You can also consider a CineSaddle that will literally put your camera on the ground.

High hats are great too.

Best,

Dan

The problem you would have with this is the big knobby thing that sticks out under the bowl that atches the head to the legs would prevent it getting too low... On my Vinten head I can use a standard M10 nut which solves this but it would still cause a problem.

Even with the high hat, the stud that sticks out the bottom would stop it getting too close to the ground.

Have you considered using one of those beanbags designed especially for getting cameras low to the ground?

Hi hats or baby sticks are usually pretty cheap from a rental house. Also a lot of ground level spreaders can slide out and help get your sticks lower to the ground.
