renaming a folder and how to solve the "can't find file" mess that follows

OK, so I'm in the editing phase of my first short film.

I renamed a folder containing some of the media and now, of course, vegas can no longer find the files at the old address.

In my old "light" vegas Studio Platinum version, when that happened, I would simply tell it where the first file is located and it would then ask me: Do you want to use the same destination for all missing files" and I would reply YES and THE TRICK WAS DONE.

In my new full version Vegas 8.2 (or is it 8.1?), it does not the same thing:

1. It tells me a file is missing and asks me if I want to search for it or give vegas the new location file.

2. I give it the new file location

3. but it stops there and asks me again for the next file, and then the next one etc etc... One by one!!! RATS! Who has the time for that?

HELP, sometimes I need to rename or move a folder and it is such a nightmare, especially due to the WEIRD mfx file names, no one can understand or ever remember...

How can I solve this problem?

Otherwise, so far the editing of my 'short' film, (not so short - it will probably clock at about 30 to 40 minutes in length) is going SMOOTH as a baby's butt. NO bugs what so ever to report. I am working in Raylight BLUE mode, at half or full size and everything is live and smooth play back.

Life is gooood.

It should say something like "other files have been detected," etc., and do you want to choose them all? Then you'd pick yes. It's not doing that?

Nops...

It starts by saying files cannot be found and gives me 4 options. I pick the "inciate new location" option. Then it seems I have to actually find the file for it, i cannot just point to the folder...

then it finds the file and asks me for the next file.

Maybe I am not selecting the proper option out of the 4?

can you walk me click by clin through the process as you do it?

Thank you david :)

what totally annoys me with this function is it will ask you every time you reload the project, even though you previously told it where to find the file and also done subsequent version saves!!

When you pick "specify new location," it should tell you that another file was also found in that folder, and ask if you want to add it. Then, the rest should follow automatically if you choose "yes to all."

Now, if you have subfolders in the folder you renamed, you may have to go through multiple steps. But you may not.

As a test I moved just one file, pointed ot new location and saved. When I opened it again it found it just fine. So a single file is not a problem for me.

I am going to try again tonight and see if what you say above happens for me or not. I'll let you know...
