External monitor ideas

Okay, I'm guessing that thing is thousands of dollars....I'm looking for a couple of hundred dollar soluton. The mini TV thing has a lot of potential.

Thanks anyway Matty.

wow... those video glasses look like they might be a viable option especially since im using a DVX100. The res is 640x480 in at least one of those models. I'd rather try before buying though... hmmm time to read some reviews.

I'm sold by the display picture :) It even records from external av devices. If the 320x240 resolution is decent at it's 4.3inch this could be an effective 'split' reducing wear on tape heads for playback, not to mention focus assist for those with smaller built in lcd's . and lightweight. wonder how battery holds up though... and can it flip hehe?

Just got email back from MYVU on their universal video eyewear stating the resolution is "320 x 240 qVGA and the screen
size is equivalent to watching a 27" screen from six feet back". I don't know how plausable the 27" screen pitch is, but the resolution is the same as the Coby so does it come down to size? I am quite tempted by the idea of 'video eyewear'

Yes. The problem with these, like a lot of electronics, is different products with the same 'specifications' will give different results! :(

at least right now, while we are speculating, the important thing is what inputs these things accept. For instance, there are some that only accept some kind of proprietary hook ups...the one I posted accepts composite video in...

I saw this back a while ago and I'm wonderin' what kinda danger you would be in wearin' these things with no quick way to look out of them. However, it's quite an interesting way to shoot!

No one said it hurts to be different. Who's gonna be the guinea pig?

I like my Totevision LCD-703 HD. I use it with my HVX200 and with my HPX500.
It's a cool little tool at a reasonable price. Like here

The monitor has it's flaws. The viewing angle is not that great. Especially when you look up or down to it. But it does it's job. And at the price it was a no-brainer for me. I use it on every production and it's a cool tool for what it's worth.

P.S. The musicvideo from the shooting on the pictures above can be found here. Enjoy.

What kind of battery are you using with that? Looks like a decent solution though the Ikan v8000 i think is slightly cheaper?

i didn't see other lcds, so i can't really comment much, but i got my ikan v8000hd deluxe kit with battery, charger... i'm pretty happy about it, for the price it's great monitor.

I use V-Mount batteries on my totevision (which means deathvision in german btw, very strange)

The monitor will run for three or four days of shooting(!) on these kind of batteries before I have to recharge them. Just plug and forget. It's really cool.

The Totevision LCD-703 HD does the job for me as a professional producer who uses it every day. I can't comment on other monitors. So take my comment for what it's worth for you.

BTW I saw the Marshall monitors on IBC last year and wasn't overimpressed. They are OK, don't get me wrong. But I'd say that my LCD-703 HD is just as good (until proven wrong of course)

I'm with Disjecta: I want something small that I can move to any point on the camera. I don't even need HD resolution, just something I can see just fine.

I think I'm gonna try one of those Portable Media players out.
