I have all the required presets and everything to run my 24f footage properly in CS3, but is it normal that as soon as i drag it into the timeline, that i have to render it? It goes red right away? Is this normal?

I experience that also but its so quick that it does not worry me at all.

I kind of think its "conforming" something... more than rendering.

look down in the bottom right corner, is there a blue bar (progress bar) telling you "conforming"? if so, just wait that one out. should be good after that. First it will do the video then it will do the audio.

now you shouldn't have to render it to edit it. i never render any of my footage while editing. the only reason to render is to see an effect in real time.

i'm a bit at a loss and i see no one else is chiming in... i'm gioing to shoot some 24f footage now and check w/ mine... all i shoot is 30f

now just to be sure, you mean the red line above the footage or the footage is now a red screen (Media Off-Line)?

??? don't know what to tell you.. I just did some test 24f footage and it came out just fine. i do get that "un rendered" line above my footage but i can edit all i want.

that is what i mean. I thought maybe it would have not that line directly after dropping it into the timeline. But i guess it must render.

a quick update, i went back to my Premiere 2.0 and noticed that the .avi files (captures from my old Canon GL2) didn't have a render bar. but new footage i dropped on a sequence (newly captured HDV off my Canon XH-A1) comes up with the render bar. it's got to deal with the mpeg format... haven't researched yet, but that's my thought.

As far as i can tell it's a new 3.0 feature. The old 2.0 would only show a red render bar if you had an effect on that video. Now it's the entire video fresh into a sequence.

You can turn it on and off.
