How to Achieve Cine-like Gamma Curve in Post?

Is there any post production method for achieving the same cine-like gamma curve as can be done using the DVX100B's scene file gamma setting "Cine-like"? I shot with all scene file settings at 0, normal matrix and normal gamma curve. I'm on a Powermac G5 with Final Cut Studio 2 (Color does NOT run on my system currently) and Photoshop CS. Any ideas?

It's a basic 'S' gamma curve typical of film.

I don't know your CC comfort level but you may want to take a look at Nattress Effects for ease of use. You, obviously, won't need any of the 24p processing attributes - you can simply use the RT (close to real-time) effects that behave the same without too much extra rendering.

I'm not 'on the box' at the moment but it's a good departure point. Again - I don't have a feel for your handling of Final Cut's color correction.

I've used Final Cut Pro 6's 3 way color corrector quite a bit. Is there a way of achieving the Cine-like gamma curve with out the natress plug-in?

The Nattress plug-ins are often worth their weight in gold. You might want to take a harder look at what is offered for the prices there. Its very reasonable in cost for how much some of the packages provide. Also they are quite well done, they perform as advertised (just see all the postings around here in the archived threads).

I think the Nattress plug-in, or an equivalent, is really the only way to achieve what you want. You are re-interpreting the math (from the linear video curve to the film s curve). You're not just adding saturation, luminance, or shifting tones, so you need a specialized plug-in with more punch than just the 3-way CC.

Cheers.

Ditto to what VaricamLife said....... and.......

I realize with so much invested in a camera, software and equipment that the last thing you probably want is another purchase. If you put a price on your time spent, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what Nattress Effects can do.

If nothing else, check out the free demos:

(And, no, I don't work for Graeme Nattress but that would be an interesting learning experience)
