Economy on an HV20

What's needed for this to work? Is a step up ring all that's required? I know the letus mini is designed for it, but I want something that can be used on larger cameras as well. Also, what's recommended in the ways of rail support with an HV20/larger cameras (XHA1 form factor)?

We just bought a brevis to use with our HV20 and only needed step up rings (43mm to 55mm and 55mm to 72mm). I am using the same cavision rod system and follow focus with the HV20/brevis that I was using with my DVX/Snod35. I would have opted for the SGPro with a larger camera, but the footage between the HV20/brevis and the HV20/SGPro made me lean toward the Brevis. So far, we are happy with the Brevis. I'm not too fond of the Bokeh though (it looks more fuzzy than out of focus to me). I think this is a result of the bright screen. Anyway, the Brevis seemed to be the best option for the HV20.

Here are some threads about the HV20/brevis combo:

We have pretty much the same set up as the picture in this thread

I know that Dennis over at Cinevate seemed pretty intent on making sure the Brevis worked very well with the HV20 and I think a lot of people are happy with that combo.

the economy will work fine with the hv20. I use the mini with the the hv20, well used it twice, you can see both attempts on my blog.

The good thing about the economy is if you get a bigger camera later you can use it with it. The mini only works with small cameras.

You will need step up rings and to be honest rails too.

no, am a fan...but it's a b camera, it's so much harder to use than the ex1. the results are worthwhile but it's just so damn fiddly!

I may be going out on a limb here but I believe the Brevis is the only adapter that can be configured for both large and small cameras to gain full frame widths on both. I personally have never liked the idea of the having multiple adapters for different cams...so our solution is to keep things modular so that some simple parts swaps would be all that is required. The same philosphy extends to the flip module which is designed to work for both large, and small cameras.

Another hidden advantage of having the flip separate is that you gain a lot of alignment room in doing this. This means that pesky cams like the HV20 can be properly centered ... reducing the zoom-in required by up to 15%. Many HV20's shoot with a very large skew to the left or right, requiring compensation in the adapter. If the adapter cannot compensate, you must keep zooming in to clear the offending left or right side of the frame. This effectively throws a large usable chunk of image width away.

used HV20 with both the Brevis and SGpro on my lovefest entry. see link in signature for screenshots. pm me if you have questions about the differences.

The Economy / Extreme can both be used on the HV20 no problem. There are many Letus users with this config.

If you have both large and small cameras, the Economy / Extreme is the way to go. The main reason we made the Mini was simply for size. The Mini was made for those who want the smallest rig possible. There are many situations when having an easily hand-held 35mm adapter setup is preferable to a full blown HVX / EX1 / XHA1 / other large camera. I can easily put the Mini / HV20 in a backpack when I travel. It sure beats lugging around the XH-A1 when I'm just shooting for fun.

Again, the Mini was made purely out of size considerations. Its big sister, the Extreme, will fit the bill if you need to use various sizes of cameras.

p.s. Here is a link with the step rings others have had great success with: http://support.letusdirect.com/index.php?tsrc=knowledgebase&category=C1&act=15

It sure does have it's advantages!
People ask lots of questions when you have a fully loaded rig. Especially a problem when those permits were left at home :lipsrseal
The Mini with an HV20 = cute and innocent.
No hidden intensions evident to the onlooker, BUT sure is capable of delivering :engel017:
