IKAN 8000 HD monitor

So i've been having some problems with my monitor...

First it wouldnt power on unless it was plugged into a wall socket. So I bought the SONY battery adapter for it and it now powers up fine.

HOWEVER it flickers constantly. I read a thread where people discussed this problem but for all of them it seemed to go away once the monitor "warmed up". I had it running for 30 min. straight and the flicker never went away!

Are there any solutions to this problem?

Just received my monitor and have only tried it for a few minutes. Are you talking about flicker within parts of the image or the full screen? Mine did exhibit some flicker (almost like scan lines not keeping up or something, maybe it is not the same as you have). Anyway, interested to see if this is the same thing.

Overall pretty happy with it, especially the price. I picked up a dead pixel model for cheap. One pixel is dead (and blue), but looks fine.

I also have trouble with running the Ikan off the battery, though no problem with ext. power but haven't noticed any "flicker".

My problem is that some Sony batteries work, but not others, though they all show full charge and run the Z1U with no problem.

My solution is to run it off an Anton Bauer brick mounted to the tripod. Hand held... I don't use the Ikan anyway.

I have the Ikan V8000HD and also have that battery issue. The solution I found is to put the battery on, and then plug the monitor to ext. power. It will now work off the battery, and I just have to unplug it from ext. power.
But the more I shoot using this solution (especially location shooting), the more I find it inconvenient.
Rob, you said you bought the Sony battery adapter. Did you mean this one, from Nebtek?

thanks!

It's a full screen "flicker" that doesn't happen when its powered off the wall. And strangely enough before I got the Sony Battery adapter the grey market battery actually worked better than the Sony! I have no idea why...

Changing the input channels seems like its worth a shot...I can't believe it didn't even occur to me!

And the nebtek battery adapter is not what I got...I mean its the same exact design, but I got an Ikan brand one that is much much cheaper ($54) from Adorama.

Ikan AC106S Sony Battery Adapter for the V2500, V7000, V9000, V8000W, V8000T & PT1000 TFT LCD Monitors.

Thanks for you're help...I'll try switiching the inputs tonite and see how it works.

The problem with start up that you are observing is likely due to initial "in-rush" power demand by the monitor. The Sony Li-Ion battery has a built in circuit breaker for safety. Once the in-rush current exceeds the limit, the breaker disables your battery.
While Ican and Nebtek adapters look similar, they are probably different in their internal design. If the Nebtek has a "soft start" feature, it should power the monitor through start-up OK.

I wonder if starting without a signal would help this? Does the power demand have anything to do with the image or just the juice the monitor needs to get going?

No, I don't think it has anything to do with the video signal...I have the same battery problem, with or without any signal...

oh and Rob, about the Sony adapter you bought, you just put it over the existing Sony adapter on the V8000HD, plug it in with the wire, and everything works perfectly?
thanks

I wouldn't say it works perfectly...it made the monitor constantly flicker (which is annoying but I can still shoot and pull focus normally). But yeah for 54 bucks I can at least get the monitor to power on when I want it to!

Anyone have any ideas to get rid of the flicker in the monitor. It makes pulling focus while moving a pain in the ass.

After reading all the posts in this thread I decided I'd had enough with my intermittent V8000HD and sent it back to Ikan. A week later they sent me a new one that works perfectly!

FYI: Spoke with a guy named Dariel in the customer service department @ 888-556-9331. Give it a shot.

i also had issues, when monitor wouldn't want to power from battery, and also if connected by component cable ant supplied hd signal, if you over expose the image, monitor turns off... they sent me a replacent, should get it soon.
