I am having some problems getting .mxf files into FCP. I shot 720p/24pn with a HVX 200.
Here is my issue. I used P2CMS while in the field to offload P2 cards onto external hard drives. I did not know which NLE i was going to be using, so I kept my options open. I kept everything very organized using the Metadata, places, times, camera serial, shooters, all that stuff.
I have decided to used final cut pro to edit. The version that I have is 5.1.4.
First, I got a rude awakening when I found that none of my well organized Metadata came into final cut with the footage using the Import Panasonic P2 window. Bummer. I have enough footage to make that a real inconvenience. I have looked at Raylight and HD Log Gold, but I do not know which one will do what I need, and if they are worth the price. I hope that FCP 6 will have solved the metadata problem.
But, there is another, bigger problem. I have many files that are over 45 minutes, and it seems that FCP Import Panasonic P2 will not span together more than 4Gb of footage without making an unusable quicktime file. I have many converted quicktime files that are EXACTLY 4Gb's, none bigger, and they are unreadable by quicktime or FCP. The longest clip that I have in my bins is 4:15;00 the rest are unreadable.
This means that I cannot even use FCP to edit the project at all.
Has FCP 6 fixed these problems? Am I missing some small detail? Should I invest in 3rd party converters, or should I just jump ship and edit on avid (boo).
