I am part of an organization called the Colorado Actors and Screenwriters Assembly, or CASA for short.

We meet monthly at the historic Bug theatre in North Denver, usually on the second Saturday of the month (except this month, we had it last weekend). It goes from 12:30 to 4PM and consists of cold reads, monologues, rehearsed scenes, and sometimes a short film or two. We discuss everything, offering feedback and criticism.

It is a diverse population ranging from the experienced to the novice. It's a great place to network, see what actors and writers are doing and get a handle on some of the projects that might be going on.

There is no charge to come, and you don't have to be a writer or and actor either. In fact, one of the things we are trying to do to get more actors to come, is to invite filmmakers who might see them read and consider casting them.

These were the folks who helped me get started years ago. They love what they do and are always looking for new faces. So, if you aren't doing anything next month (Sat, Feb 9) come on down. I guarantee you will find someone or something you can use in your next project. Besides, I'll be there.

It really is a great opportunity, but we have found the interest has waned in the past couple of years. We are hoping to revitalize it, and the potential of some filmmakers attending may attract more acotrs.

Makes a lot of sense. If actors feel they can get in front of filmmakers they may be more excited about the whole thing. Good luck on this, Jim.

I wanted to give this a bump because we have another monthly event called The Emerging Filmmakers Project, where we screen local films (usually shorts). It's $5 to get in, but that includes beer donated by the Breckenridge Brewery.

It's always interesting, but this month we are screening Do It For Johnny, a feature length doc made by a friend of mine, Haylar Garcia and his team.

I kid you not, it is one of the most entertaining and engaging documentaries I have EVER seen. A 2 year quest to get a guitar and a script into the hands of Johnny Depp.

They just got an international distribution deal, so this will be the only public screening of the film before that goes into the works. If you are anywhere near Denver this Thursday night at 7:30PM I strongly urge you to come down.

It's at the Bug Theatre at
3654 Navajo street, Denver

I just wanted to give this a bump. If any of you are in the area this Saturday we'll be getting started at 12:30. If anybody has any questions about it, they can PM me.
