SGpro: strange flicker in out of focus highlights

I just got an SGPro and took it to the beach for some tests. I have to say I like it a lot, it is an amazing adapter. The only problem I encountered so far was a strange flickering (I do not know how to call it) especially visible in out of focus highlights. You can also see it in pictures with a lot of detail when you watch it on a big screen. I suspect that the GG is not completely mounted in a right angle to the lens but I might be wrong. What should I do? Do others encounter the same thing in their footage.

Here is a file (about 1MB) which shows the flickering (enlarged it). I shot over-cranked (50 frames/s).

It just came to my mind that if the GG is not in a right angle to the lens it still would not produce flickering. You just wouldn't get an image sharp form edge to edge...

Yea it does look odd. Kinda cool though, 'Bokeh pumping' lol. Looks like the spinning GG is doing something it shouldn't be doing. PM/E-mail Wayne maybe to see what he makes of it?

I can't get the file working but I have something like what you describe with the redrock in bright areas.

Lenilenapi: What kind of program are you using to play it? I have a mac and it plays in QT and VLC.
Any others having problems with seeing the file?

it looks like the GG disk isn't aligned properly on the motor. you're right that if the motor was misaligned it would just be out of focus on one side, but the disk is misaligned on the motor...

Try iTunes n'see if that works. Also, Download VLC. It's free and plays everything. Flip4Mac is also a program you should get for future use. All free, all great.

when i downloaded it, it was a .txt file for some reason. this happens on some files every now and again... i assume that's what happening lenny. just rename the file to have .mp4 at the end and not .txt

It sounds like you're right with the gg being misaligned.
I've seen it happen with a not properly set up M2 before.

Yeah That worked Thanks

This is what i have seen ona redrock, but i don't know if its a misalignment issue or a possible spinner isse or if it has to do with camera/shutter speed.
I know that this cause a freind of mine to sell his Redrock.
Oh well one more damn thing to test for.
Who has time?

That is strange and seems like a fluke because I don't have that issue on my Sgpro and have yet to see it on anyones elses footage. When I look at the footage I feel like I can actually see the GG spinning

Hi,

It indeed looks like the GG is not spinning true, which is unacceptable. We have put many hours of research into ensuring that the disk spins perfectly true, so it looks like a possible warped disk.

I have PM'ed you regarding solving the issue.

Wow. I've not heard of this in an SGPro before. I'd say that is a pretty isolated case.

Looks like Wayne's on it so you'll be back on track soon !

Richard

Out of true disc syndrome. Happened to mine once. Sent it back. Wayne and company took care of issue ASAP. Happily spinning true now.
