Boom poles, suspension modules, and fuzzy stuff, oh my! Please help! Boom gear 0_o

Would you please give me some advice because I am in need of purchasing a good boom setup, and I would love to have your advice.

I have a AKG SE 300 B with CK 91 (cardiod mic) and CK 98 (short shotgun) caps. By the way, is the CK91 won't be suitable for a boom, right? But I know the CK98 will be good for the boompole since it is a shotgun mic.

So what do I need to buy for the shotgun mic? And where's the best place to buy all of this stuff? Can you refer me to an online store?

I know I would need a boom pole, a windjammer, and a shockmount. Anything else?

Some things are confusing me...

Are shockmounts mic specific? I was told the K-tec K-ssm was an excellent shockmount, but when I searched for it, I found this: http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KSSM
and it says that it is for the Sanken CS-1 microphone. What about the AKG shotgun mic?

And I also saw on this page:
http://www.evsonline.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=040201
A "rycote 1 module steroe modular suspension" for the CK91. What is a "modular suspension" is this the same thing as a shockmount?

And also, what about Zeppelins? How do I know what Zeppelins are good? Do I need to look for a compatible size for the AKG shotgun mic? Or is it one size fits all? Any recommendations? You need a zepellin for a windjammer right? Windjammers are the fuzzy things e.g. softies, right?

And I don't need to worry about "windscreens" right? The black foam that comes with the mic is the windscreen, yeah? And that foam/windscreen is usually just good protection for indoors.

Any other accessory I leave out? Please help me understand all the necessary items that make up a good boom kit.

But finally, if anyone can help refer me to a good online store where I can buy all the necessary accessories, that would be great. Please let me know what would make a good setup and where I might be able to buy this online.

lol, i hope you are OK with all the questions, I just want to get all the basis covered.

Thanks so much :)

I was thinking of buying the reflectors (and possibly the lighting kit) from dvcreators.com (unless you'd recommend otherwise) but anyway about the audio question here... well they sell boompole kits there too, but I don't think it's compatible with the AKG: http://dvcreators.net/rode-microphones ....Right?

But what about the Sannheiser wireless attachment... that makes a shotgun mic wireless so you don't have to bother with cables:

Sennheiser Evolution G2 ENG Wireless Lavalier System + Plug on Transmitter Same as above Evolution G2 Wireless lavalier system and adds SKP 100 G2 Plug on transmitter for use with handheld mic or shotgun. Note that you can only use either the plug-on transmitter or the lavalier, you can’t do both a wireless handheld and lavalier at the same time unless you have two receivers.

Will they work for any microphone? Like the AKG?

Thanks again,

Marvin

kgps would be good for your mic with both capsules

i'm not exactly short how long the se 300 is..didn't measure it. it's a "short shotgun" though according to the description.

ah ok, thanks.

By the way, why is the hyper recommended for indoors?

What's kgps and where is the best place to buy that?

I was told by a friend to buy a K-tek zepellin package. What do you guys think? I'm thinking of checking out Trew's Audio for that, as recommended by my friend.

Thanks,

Marv

if you a\re not from nashville and dont do local pick up
tai audio or gothamsound usially chepaer
but better to check

Oleg, so I'll just measure the shotgun cap (not attached to the AKG 300) with a ruler? and then post it here in centimeters, right? I looked on the mic it doesn't have any size on it.

Thanks, I checked the link you posted. That's the kgps shockmount. But that's just the shockmount right? I thought a zeppelin would look more like this: http://dvestore.com/images/mz20_1blimp.jpg

Sorry, i'm still very new to all of this. I'm reading up on all of this as we speak. I'm coming across terms that I think are referring to the same thing.... but i'm not quite sure... For example, "pistol grip" (http://dvestore.com/images/mzs20_1pistolgrip.jpg) is that the same thing as "shockmount"?

Also, are "blimp" and "windscreen" and "zeppelin" are they all the same thing?

And... "wind jammer" and "wind muffs" are the same thing right?

And the black foam that comes with mic is called "windscreen" as well?

And the baby ball gags are like the "wind jammer" but for the cardiod mics?

Thanks,

Marv

Ah thanks again Oleg! I should get that one then, yeah? Does that include the shockmount too?

All that I need to buy after that is a boom pole, right? You said that you liked the K-tek boompole? What do you think of the Gitzo 12' carbon boompole? That's what a friend suggested I get. Would you please link/recommend a boompole as well?

I think I'll just purchase everything from Trewaudio if they have it available there.

Thanks again!

I'll measure my microphone shotgun cap + the 300 and post the length right after.

Marv

Ok, i measured the ck98 shotgun cap attached to the akg300 (and no black foam), and it is approximately 14 inches which according to google converts to "35.56 centimeters" :)

Yeah, I only have one AKG 300 b.

The cardioid ck91 mic cap (without foam) attached to the akg 300 is about 5.6 inches or 14.3 centimeters.

By the way, how do you know the size of the zeppelin to get, is there a reference chart online somewhere?

since you have only 1 mic atime you wouldnt need 2 suspentions , you can use the zepelin one to work with 91 capsule , just make fur that will cover your foam and that all
the pdf i sent you have the mesurment for each model
did you get my email on hot mail?
