Shyamalan's "The Happening" trailer online

well... one note on the "departure" thought is that this is his first R-rated feature. tom rothman insisted on it.

Lamest title ever. Sounds like a Psychadelic 70's flick directed by Roger Corman. The original title was The Green Effect, which is just as bad. Trailer looks good, but so do the trailers for all of M. Night's films. I'll only go see this if it gets great reviews. M. Night has failed to deliver one too many times for me.

Night has become such a train wreck (heh heh heh) that all his films from here on out are required viewing. How out of touch with reality can he get? How long will they allow him to keep making films? If this film bombs, he may have to start searching for funds on the independent front. He already used up a lot of his own money for Lady In The Water (don't think the wife is going to allow that to happen again).

I honestly have no idea how Average Joe Cinemagoer will react to this trailer. Will they think it's interesting? Will they laugh? Will they say, "What the f**k was that?" to their friend? I have no idea. But I believe this will do a little better than Lady and not as well as Village. All I know is I have to see it. If only to marvel at how weird his choices have become.

i really enjoy all his films so i imagine i'll like this one. im not sure why this looks like a departure though, all of his films explore some weird supernatural activity the characters dont understand. this looks like more M. Night, which im happy about

Maybe it's because the script is so bad that it seriously endanger your mental health.

I'm just kidding, I would not bash on the genius behind cinema classics like "Lady In The Water".

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Night wrote 30+ drafts for The Sixth Sense. He's averaged 6-7 drafts for every subsequent movie. Coincidence?

The Wachowskis also wrote 40-some drafts for The Matrix. Then wrote 3 or 4 for the sequels. Coincidence.

Reality people: The script matters!

I'm not going to look into anything about this movie untill it premieres over here. Too much bad word of mouth and hype.

I want to judge this by its own merits. I'm actually one of the few that enjoyed every M. Night film to date. Some, of course, more than others. Never felt like a waste of time, like going to see something like "Fantastic Four", or "Xmen 3, the Last Stand", or even "I am Legend".

I believe people bash M. Night because he's Indian. Just kidding :)

Its because he delivered in such a way with both the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, that everyone is expecting something that's going to surprise and thrill them like those 2 movies. They end up not giving a chance to the stories at all.

I do concede on the bad acting, though. While he's an excelent Actor's director, he's a terrible actor himself. In Lady in the Water it was really distracting.

Hope I didn't seem like I was bashing him - I like M. Night.

Sixth Sense was fantastic, obviously. Unbreakable? Crap. I really liked Signs and The Village, but thought LITW was horrendous. His roles are usually short and to the point and therefore forgiveable - but he gave himself a lot of screen time in LITW and he just could not carry it. That was definitely a huge factor in my dislike of the movie.

The Happening might very well be another one of his blockbusters- the trailer announcement today was the first I'd heard of it. It looks pretty twisted, which is why I said it seemed like a departure. His other stuff all feels "family friendly" to me, for some reason.

But I wouldn't discredit him as a writer/director just because of two flops out of five. He's still young and he's clearly a very talented storyteller. He's still got a pretty solid record at the box office and plenty of time to solidify his career and his body of work.

I can't wait to see this. I have really liked all his films except for Lady in the Water...but even that had alot of unique directoral vision. He is one of the most interesting filmmakers around today.

I totally agree, and am really looking forward to this one. I think lady was just something he had to get out of his system, I dont think its a horrible film and doesnt deserve all the crap heaped on it, but it wasn't his best work.

This trailer brings me back to "Unbreakable". Remember the trailer for that? It barely hinted at what the movie was about and made me instantly want to know more.
