Dynatran "Pro Video" Tripod (AT 6907)

...If this seems like a bad idea, any suggestions in the $3-500 range?

Well if you're serious about your work, then I wouldn't recommend it. You could start here at B&H Photo. This page is limited to Bogen/Manfrotto sticks and heads, which are in your price range. The 501 head is good and the 503 head is better. The more you spend on the sticks, the happier you'll be in the long run.

You can sort the prices from low to high, or whatever (on the right near the top).

Rogue Crew speaks wise words... A good tripod is as important as a good camera (okay maybe that's an exaggeration but it's really important for your production value).

That's a fraky site. Muslim Background and Beyound... Anyway, not anythinga ggainst muslim backgrounds, but it's still weird for a video site. Anyway, so they're selling for 300 bucks a tripod that was listed for 1700? That's a good clearance, maybe you can get a DVX for 600 Bucks!

This might be of interest to anybody looking for a quality tripod.

How Amvona came up with such a cheesy name as "Dynatran" for its tripods, I haven't a clue, but I rolled the dice earlier this year and bought their heavy duty model, the 9903 (http://www.amvona.com/v7/shop/?page...33d17b64744f75b0fdce307195cf5&product_id=1846), on Ebay. It has been used extensively since then on several shoots by pro operators, both feature & network guys, and all of us have been majorly impressed. I bought another 9903 (Ebay), and got a friend a 6907. She tells me she prefers it over the other sticks w/501 and 503 heads she's used.

I called Amvona when I was stressing on the first auction, asking who made the head, how come there's no reviews, etc. They couldn't tell me who, but did explain that Amvona was known primarily for the muslin and still photog sticks they sell, and that these new tripods are their first excursion into video equip market. They were using the 9903 as a lost leader on Ebay.

Well, like I said, the quality has astonished many of us. I was up at EVS with a DP friend, and he and Josh and I tried to determine who might possibly be manufacturing the heads & legs. I think we'd come up with possibly a Miller head, but can't remember which legs right now. We did conclude that the sticks/head combo with a known name on it would probably retail in the $2-3000 range.

Amvona puts one up on Ebay every coupla weeks it seems, and I'm thinking that once word gets out on its quality, getting one for under a grand would still make it a steal. I picked up my last one for $600, and somebody beat me to the punch before and got one for just under $500. The 6907 model I got for $202.00!

I've been meaning to put a customer review on the Amvona site, but haven't gotten around to it. Hope this helps.

I went ahead and bought one. Even if the head turns out to be lousy, I can use it for my still camera.

I can't speak with any authority on their tripods, but their grip equipment is worthless junk, and their customer service it TERRIBLE!

Well, got this today, and I have to say, not knowing what to expect when I ordered this, I'm pretty impressed by this product. The good: The sticks are awesome and are worth 89 bucks alone. In fact, you'd have to pay two times as much to get sticks approaching these in quality. They're built like a tank and give rock solid stability. I put my 9 pound camera rig (FX-1,35mm adapter, rails) and felt completely confident walking away from it. The quick release plate is very well made (and you get a spare!), and you get two fully adjustable pan/tilt handles. You also get a nice bag with a carrying strap. The bad: Yep, the head is not quite as good as the Manfrotto 501, which I have used extensively. The fluid motion in the tilt feels very smooth and strong with no stiction, but the panning isn't as good. To get it to stop and and start smoothly I had to loosen it more than I'd like. Also, the drag controls aren't as fine as that on the 501. Overall though I'm impressed with the build quality, and it's probably the best tripod you can get for 89 bucks by a wide margin. They also sell a crutch leg version of this for 80 bucks more, but to be honest, these sticks are more than enough for me. I'm probably going to buy a 501 or 503 head and put in on these sticks...as far as customer service, I'm assuming you meant Amnova, but I got these on Amazon from a seller called Cheetah Mounts. Anyway, I ordered late Friday and got them this morning so I have no complaints.

i just picked up an amvona myself. Best option for my budget and very tough. Head pan not as smooth as our 501, but it feels sturdier.
