HVX + LEX stills and footage

PaPa, can you tell me what the fixing process is? I shot a music video this past week and had the same problems with a hair in the middle of the frame and a few specks. Plus we had the GG grain problem on the first day. It seemed to show up mostly when we were a bit under-exposed.

You can't stop the Camera down further than F4, or the Lens F5.6. You still have to have a decent amount of light, just not as much as other adapters.

The process is taking off the lens end of the LetusEX and using an Air Can to blow on the back of the GG and the Condenser behind it. That should do it.

it really is like shooting film then :)

"clean the gate"

however, i'd be a bit weary about using compressed air on sensitive materials. the aerosol agents often come out before the air does, and at large bursts too, so unless experienced and even then BE CAREFUL.

Since adapters aren't just a film gate, there is glass and electronics that could be damaged.

maybe just use a manual blower (hand pump/squeeze)?

Is that process of removing the lens side obvious and is there any danger of disturbing the elements or anything else. How careful do you need to be?

As careful as you should be with any gear, of course. But I've done it on the fly and haven't hurt the ground glass or anything at all.

Just dust everything (including the front) before you put it back on.

Just make sure you don't touch the GG or other important elements.. gently spray some canned air, no longer than about a second each time (its very cold). Also make sure you spray a bit of it in the air before you try it on the adapter, since the first bit might be a bit waterish.

I wouldn't be so afraid of the canned air, just use short bursts and hold the can right side up.

no, you should be very afraid :crybaby:
i once had a bad can.
took me a while to walk away from it :embarasse

but yes, if using, spray a bit out first (each time) to get rid of condensation build up / aerosol nasty stuff.

:)

Especially after hearing those stories of bad motor, glue falling off.. man I was pretty scared opening this thing, but it all turned out working again.

Just a tiny update:

Hien send me the EF mount with fedex extremely urgent or something.. it got to the Netherlands within a few days.

Thanks Letus.

is that as low as the Letus support system will let you mount the camera and adapter without a matte box or can you go a bit lower?

I think this was almost at the lowest...

I just dislike the fact that I can't have the rig sitting on a table anymore with the rods this way... No problem when there's a tripod nearby, but when shooting handheld it sometimes is easy to just drop the cam on a table or something..

Me too. I just have it rasied now so it rests flat on the tripod plate, it's steady as a rock.

How low can you go with a Matte box? I'd probably cut the excess beyond that and set it up flush even though you don't have a MB yet

Yes. I am getting to the "where's my hacksaw" stage :(
