Making a room look old without damage...

Does anyone know of a forum that specifically is tailered for set dressers or if not maybe you guys can help. I need to be able to write on a wall... then put wallpaper over it, and then have my main character rip it all off. I need all of that without actually harming the original walls in the person's house. Can anybody think of anything to help me out? Any ideas? Thanks!

You could build a wild studio wall that would go into the practical location, complete with baseboard, chair rail, crown and appropriate paint or paper. I've done this when we needed to have exposed lathe and plaster but didn't want to disturb the existing location.

yeah i was afraid of this... haha

I saw a segment on the behind the scnes of MI:III where they talked about putting layer and layers of paint on the walls and making it peel and stuff. How do you all suggest doing the aging effect. I want it to look really really old. I'm talking super old. Really stained and cracked wallpaper etc.

Scenics have a lot of tricks for this. You can dry brush watered down tobacco and black paint into the wall. Shellac will brown and brittle up the wallpaper. You can tea stain the paper as well, using a hudson sprayer or handheld spray bottle.

Ok, so i'm at a loss here. If anybody is in the LA area and would like to graciously help out, either scouting or transforming my apt., PM me. Of course food, credit, and a copy of the film would be provided and a fun, great work environment. I appreciate in advance. Any other questions feel free to PM me as well.

not being mean, but most of you only have half the idea. yes shellac was brushed on then painted over this and peeled away. i would suggest giving it a test maybe get patch drywall from the store to try out the method. check out silent hill behind the scenes its a great movie and great info on behind the scenes work.
