Setting Up a MacPro with a TV monitor

Sorry if this is a very basic question (or posted in the wrong forum)...

I have a MacPro Dual Core 3 ghz running Final Cut Pro 5.1.4...I currently have two LCD computer monitors hooked up, but would like to add a TV monitor. I know there's a way of doing it through a camera, but I'd like something more permanent.

Thanks in advance!

You could loop through a deck or get a AD/DA converter. I use a converter but not with FCP. Some converters will alllow you to take in Beta and 3/4". Canopus/Grass Valley has a bunch of highend converters with SDI, XLR and component connectors.

Hi,

As long as your camera supports DV in then its pretty easy. Connect the camera to the TV with composite, svideo or component, whichever is easier. Then connect the firewire on the camera to the computer. Turn the camera on and make sure it is in SD and VCR mode. At the moment, this wont work with HD. Then in FCP go to view then video play back. In the slide out menu, it should have PAL or NTSC or whatever your camera is. Select that, then do view > external video then all frames. If this dosnt work then try doing view > refresh AV devices.

Thanks--I can do it that way. But I'm looking for a device other then a camera that I could use.

Thanks.

Though the devices suggested would do the trick, I wonder if I'm asking about the correct thing...I'm looking to be able to monitor my output on a non-computer monitor. What are some of the set-ups people are using? Is there a card for the Mac that aloows for the set-up?

Oh you want to use a TV as another computer monitor, not as a video monitor? Most of us use a video monitor or TV so we can view the footage back on a TV as we edit, but you want to be able to expand your desktop onto the TV?

If so, your computer might have either an Svideo or a yellow composite plug on the back. Ive never used this, but im pretty sure this is an either/or situation, plugging something into this will disable one of the other monitors. This may not be the case, but if it is - you will need another graphics card with an analogue video output....

Your first assumption was correct...I want to keep the two computer monitors, and have a third non-comptuer, video monitor to watch playback...

It seems like the AD/DA converters is the device.

Thanks for the help and sorry for the confusion!
