Hi all! I'm Chase. I came to this site for some advice on which lenses and accessories to get for the HVX200. I'm thinking of getting one of these kits from redrock.

I'm starting a production company with a friend and we have access to a few HVX200's. We are shooting our 1st major project next month and we decided the HVX200 and a lense kit is a must for this music video.

if you're not sure which lenses to get, probably a zoom would be advisable. eg: 28-70 & 80-200, so you can experiment with different focal lengths, and perhaps later have a better knowledge to know which primes you require for your shooting style/conditions
- unless ofcourse you can get a high end nikon zoom (f2.8) which arguably are as sharp (maybe sharper) than primes. but that claim is a different topic in itself.

There's a lot of NIkon lenses to chose from. Personally Iuse the following and think they are essential to cover all bases.

Nikon 17-35 2.8 zoom. Superb wide angle lens

NIkon 50mm 1.2

Nikon 85mm 1.8

Nikon 80-200 2.8 zoom

The 17-35 can be picked up for around $800 off ebay. The 80-200 for less. The 50mm 1.2 is a great lens and so is the 85mm 1.8. Those four should do all you need.

How much do want to spend?
For PL lenses prepare to drop at least 20G at which point I have to ask, why not just buy a better camera while your at it.

The next alternative would be still lenses.

Nikons are great and so are Zeiss ZF's. Another contender is the new Voightlander 58mm 1.4. The Voightlander actually tested as good and some areas better than the Zeiss for 1/3 less. Truly a deal.

I own a set of Nikons (24mm 2.0, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 105mm macro, 135mm 2.0). I think they're great lenses but I feel the Zeiss resolve noticeably higher. I'll probably be picking up the 35, 50, and 85 Zeiss to replace my equivalent Nikons. The Nikon 135 I think is a great buy so I'm keeping it. Nikon 2.8 zooms are perhaps the sharpest lenses out but are not as well suited to focus pulling (though not impossible). The 17-35 is truly amazing. At wide open, it's sharper than my primes set at 2.8. Now imagine how they look at a 4 or 5.6.
