Importing P2 in Final Cut with the New Imac

I have recently baught a new Imac 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 GB ram. When i try to import P2 cards using my HVX200 into the computer the P2 wont display on the desktop. Iam running the new final cut 6.0.2

I also have an older version laptop thats running the new FCP 6.0.2. When using that computer it works fine. After i connect my camera and press the button on the camera the p2 cards display on the desktop and i have no problem importing.

On the new Mac it wont even show on the desktop, or when i go to FCP 6.0.2 it wont show there either. On the camera it says disconnect instead of connect, this is when iam connected to the new imac. On the old apple laptop it says connect as the status when i am connected, which is what it should say.

I know its weird, buh im having a hard time understanding whats the problem. I have installed all updates from apple and still no go. I have been importing p2 using the hvx200 for over an year with my old laptop. Only with this new Imac iam having this problem.

I have also downloaded the p2 drivers as well. Please help. Thank YOU

1GB of RAM for FCP 6 is kinda pushing it. I'm not sure that even meets minimum requirements for editing HD really. You might want to throw in another 1GB stick. But that really should effect the P2 cards from mounting.

If FCP is closed, and you simply hook up your HVX200 (or are you using a P2 Store?), the cards won't mount to the desktop even then? If you open up Disk Utility it does not see the cards there at all? And yes, it should say Connected. When you toggle over to connecting it should go from Disconnected to Connected and then the P2 cards should popup onto the desktop.

And how are you connecting it to the iMac? Firewire out from the HVX to the iMAC? Have you tried plugging any other firewire devices into the iMac? Check and see if the firewire port on it is fried. Or if you have more than one available firewire port, have you tried mounting the cards while plugging into one of the other ports? From what you describe, that would be the first thing I would want to check/rule out.

Cheers.

I know 1gb is not good, buh thats all i can afford now and it does the job for me now, altho it tends to freeze sometimes. I am able to import the p2's using another older apple and then buring it onto a cd and brining it onto the new imac.

Hooking up HVX200 with final cut closed doesnt change anything either. the cards just wont show up. it continues to be on disconnect. As you would know if u have worked with importing p2's, when a connection is established it will say connect and you will see the p2 cards as hard drives on the desktop.

I am connecting to the Imac using firewire. I know for certain the firewire divices on the imac work because i have connected external drives to the same port and there is only one firewire port there.

I have also installed P2CMS and that hasnt changed a thing.

i just bought an hvx200 ...along with it i bought a mac pro with intel processer and i'm having the exact same problem so if you figure this out...please post how you did it as nothing is found in either the disk utility or on the camera it only says host 1394 and when the menu shows up providing "copy to hdd" "format hdd" property...."setup" is the only one of the four options that i can utilitze (the remaining three choices mentioned are in light grey and can't be accessed). please, IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS HELP US OUT!!!

Hi to all,
i'm another guy with the same problem!!
24" 2.8ghz iMac, 4Gb Ram and a brand new HVX200 that won't mount...
Disk Utility does not detect the camera but under system information / firewire i can see that the HVX is connected.
I'm running FCP 5.0.4 and all the drivers/programs are updated.

btw i'm using a 32Gb P2 card on my HVX... maybe that could be the problem?

please some help!!:badputer: thanks!!:embarasse

It really doesnt matter what size P2. i been reading on Apple forums and the list of people with this problem is long. And no one seems to have a solution, other than using another model computer. Right now i use an older versiona pple laptop to import.

Well, I offload the cards on my Powerbook G4 with the built in PCMCIA slot, so I don't know much about doing it with the camera attached. BUT...do all of you have the P2 card driver installed on these macs? Having FCP installed won't make the cards mount...for that you need the P2 drivers.

OK...I have the camera now...so lemme see...

Gah...I can't figure it out. I need the manual, which I don't have here. I THOUGHT you just connect via firewire...put it into MCR mode...but...no. Hmmm...perhaps connect it via USB and then press that button once more to get it into PC mode? I don't have a USB cable or I'd try it.

Hi Sabesan,

i've connected via firewire the HVX to my old PowerBook G4 but is the same thing... i can see the camera through system informations/firewire but it's not mounted.

USB2.0 makes nothing, it's not supported if you use a mac to download the recording (the user's guide specify that too).

All the software and the P2 drivers are instelled and updated.

I don't know what to do!!:kali:

When the camera is connected to the computer using firewire. Change the mode to MCR mode. and then press and hold the mcr button until on the lcd screen you see 1394 connect. then you will see the p2\s as hard drives on your desktop.

I still havent found a solution with the new i mac. Im going around town testing on every mac i know of. Everything seems to work except for the new Imac. I have gone and baught a new firewire cable as well.

I have the new imac and it mounts, check in camera firewire settings (host/device), make sure you are in card (not tape) and hold the MCR button until it mounts, don't release it.
Not sure, but install the last Pana HVX driver for mac.

I have tried that, and i have also installed new drivers for P2 as well. I have also tried changing settings from host/device. Still does not mount. On camera lcd it says Disconnect.

Its definitely not the firewire and i have also tested out the firewire port with other firewire externals and it works fine.

Hi to all,
yesterday i've installed a new internal HD into my old PowerBook G4, re-installed Mac OS X tiger and now the HVX200 functions flawlessy with it. With the same FW cable, connected to my new iMac the HVX200 does not mount.
Someone knows nothing about HVX200/P2 incompatibility with MAC OS X Leopard?
I've called Apple Support (here, in Italy) and no ones knows what to do...

Hi Ulisse,
which iMac are you using? have you Leopard installed?
Recently i called tha Apple Care support and they say the only possibility is an incompatibility between HVX200/P2 and Leopard.:badputer:

The camera connects without problems to my iMac via USB2.0 but NO WAY to mount it through firewire (that's FRUSTRATING).
Also, the HVX200 conects flawlessly to my old powerBook 12" via Firewire and USB2.0

I suggest that all the users with the same problems -and i think we are a big bunch- makes coalition to solve this problem.... i've called Apple and Panasonic and waiting for answers.
The only thing that seems plausible is an incompatibility between Mac OS X Leopard and the firewire connection to HVX because the USB link works.

very strange...

thanks to all for the support

hey when you connected via usb, did you make any changes to the settings? I tried connecting, and when i press and hold the dub button, it says connect on the camera lcd, but the p2 drives do not appear on the desktop, nor does it appear when i go in final cut to capture.

thanks
