Preview disabled. FCP 5.01 on intel macbook pro

I see there's a similar thread right around the corner, but...

A fellow editor was having issue's, so I went over there yesterday to help out (or at least attempt to).

He's running a macbook pro with FCP 5.01, and trying to capture clips through a canon XL2. Well, VTR is OK, and I can control all functions through FCP, but the capture now window displays "preview disabled", and won't capture anything.

Any idea's??

there is an option in the VCR setup in the cam menu that says "AV->DV" Thats gotta be ON to capture. I'm about... 67% positive on that though. I'm sure someone else will reply.
