Canon user thread - post your pictures here

Something new...

Oh Yes...I'm liking these. The second one has a "Hotel California" album cover look. Very cool!

Thanks guys. I took these on the same morning.

The second one...I tried a little HDR on it. Well, I actually needed to...the hotel was backlit and completely black...but I'm still having trouble with HDR...if you'll notice...there is quite a bit of noise on the right. I'm not sure if that is what you were referring to PT..or the comp?

I figured I'd post anyway because sometimes a little noise is good.

EDIT: PT, I thought about you this weekend when I saw Sweeney Todd. I noticed that Tim Burton loves that desaturated dark look without being overly contrasty...your pics have that same vibe. You care to share some of your favorite post tools?

Rick, I didn´t mean the noise. I mean if you rotated it just a bit anti-clockwise you would have a straight line in the picture.

My favourite post tools? Errrm... I´m jst playing around you know? :D You could ask me something about certain pictures and I will try to remember.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. I suppose I could crop the pic and rotate a bit.

Well your pics have a pleasing desaturated look...without looking like its going for black and white...

Well yeah, just point at one picture and I will try to tell you something about the post if you wanna know. :)

My XT should be here by the weekend .... so I'll probably be bugging you guys soon with my terrible pictures and goofy questions

Don't worry Larry...yours can't be worse than the ones I'm putting up now. I just needed to do a photoshoot and I experimented a bit with B&W. Completely forgot my tripod, so the focus may be off. Don't you hate it when you forget your tripod?

Anyway, haven't shot in a few months so here's the latest...I'll get back into it and better pictures will follow.

EDIT: When I changed the size, I never noticed the noise in the blacks, but when I upload them they're clearly evident. Does anyone know why this is?

Hey...didn't I post pics PT, comparing your shots to shots from Sweeny Todd? I could have sworn I did that...took me quite the time to compile the list too....

Ok, I warned you guys :) Here's my first ever attempt at using my brand new Rebel XT (comparing it to some of the others here, it's clear I have a lot to learn ... but that is a fun prospect)

I did Levels and Curves adjustment in PS.

This is a shot of a sticker on the back of my Honda Element. Didn't do anything to the image except add the black border in PS:

larry r...looking good. so what are your first impressions of the camera? the colors look great.

dizkoteck...yes, i dig your glam shots and would like to know what your light set up was. also, your model/friend is incredibly hot.

dizkoteck:

I like the first glam shot - the second one I think there's either too much headroom and its a little distracting, but otherwise good.

pt:

Thanks haha, it was -20 celsius that day and she was FREEZING...probably the only thing I enjoyed from that day heh. Anyway, shots didn't turn out as great as I expected them to, but I've got a shot I like for the DVXuser contest that I can hopefully unleash shortly.

larry:

Almost forgot about you! I like the first and last shots the best. Really well done.

Thanks glad you liked 'em ... I'm really enjoying the camera so far. My first impressions ... the camera felt very comfortable in my hands, it was quick and easy to set up and start shooting. The controls all seem to make sense, had to glance through the book on a couple of the menu items, but it was easy to find the answer quickly.

I'm just using the kit 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, but it seems to take a very nice, sharp, clear picture and represents the color well, IMHO. For example, the middle picture, I didn't correct that at all in PS, it is straight from the camera and is a fairly good representation of the color of the vehicle/sticker.

So, in all, my first impressions are very strong. I'm not an experienced photographer by any means, but for an average camera for someone wanting more power than the typical point-n-shoot it is a great camera, again IMHO :)
