Opinion on Sennheiser headphones

These last 10 years I have been dealing mostly with Sony headphones, 7506 and V600 (personal favourite for now).

I think it's time to look for something else, and the Sennheiser Hd-280 and Hd-555 are at the top of my list.

Any comments on sturdiness in the field or particular preferences?

The HD25 from Senheiser are the popular, but pricey choice. Some here use the HD280s. I started with Sennheiser and AKGs, but know changed to the 7506 and didn´t regret it. Only wished they would be as cheap as in the US where I live...

Senn HD280 sounds good, but they don't fit my big fat head. They fit pinheads.
Sony 7506 more comfortable over longer periods.
Senn all plastic too.

I have both the 280, the Sony and a pair of AKG. If field use is the priority, then I would suggest the Sony pair. They are the lighter pair and they are also more comfortable over a long period. At least that's been my experience. Sound-wise, they are all basically equal. Maybe go to a shop and try them.....

I have three sets: Senn HD280, Sony 7506, and AKG 240s.

The HD280 have the best isolation but they're like a vice on my head. The plastic headband started developing stress cracks even with gentle use. I agree with BRH that they don't work for everyone. They're somewhat bulky too which makes them a pain if you're in a situation where you need to constantly slip them on and off. I woudn't recommend them for field use but plenty of people like them.

For field use, I use the 7506s for the reasons already given. They're lightweight, decently sturdy, and pack up well. They sound a little bright to my ears but that's ok for field use, imo

The AKGs are my favorite for mixing live sound and general listening.

I have 3x Senn HD280 and 3x Sony 7506.

Both are great.

Then HD280s isolate more but are tight at first.

The Sony 7506 are comfortable but are not closed backed.

I say get one of each and try them for a couple of days.
