The Student Film Vow Of Chastity

12. any foray into making an "artistic statement" should contain a shot of burning money, or a burning bible, or both.

I dunno...reviewing the lyrics, it sure looks like it is.

Hmmm. I saw an interview with Clapton once where he said it was about a prostitute. But durn me if I can find any reference to that now. Wikipedia says it's an anti-drug song.

I would laugh at this thread if it wasn't SO DAMNED TRUE. Someone on the site posted his student film the other day and it fit nearly all the criteria.

What is it with the alarm clock, anyway? It shows up with the tedious inevitability of clawfoot tubs in a Cialis commercial.

Yeah, it's one of two songs by J.J. Cale recorded by Clapton. The other was "After Midnight".

I guess you have to tell your audience that "the story is starting now," and what better way to communicate "rise and shine, time to start your Requiem-for-a-Dream-listening, coke-snorting, prostitute-slaughtering, flashback-experiencing, in-camera-effect-using, suicidal day," than a ringing alarm clock?

Not sure I've seen this one before.

No? You know how in adapter test footage there are always focus racks? It seems like since shallow depth of field has become the cool thing to do every shot without a subject has a rack focus reminiscent of adapter test footage.

I guess it's because I've mainly seen inexperienced student film makers, most of whom wouldn't even know what a rack focus is.

Yeah I guess I'm talking about a sort of different crowd of filmmakers.

Anyway, another one:

15. There must be a shot where somebody runs/walks toward the camera and right when they get to it we cut to see their back walking away from the camera.

16. Pensive voice over detailing every action and feeling of the character is a welcome substitute for character and story development, and has the added bonus of allowing you to cram 20 minutes of your "story" into five.

Come on guys. I'm a film student and SO MUCH of this stuff is not true. You guys ought to pick on someone you're own size.

Lol, did you guys see my student film. I think you should state that all those things in the student film should be done with lack of knowledge of film so all composition sound design and editing is horrible or sub-par.

I been to film school already an am back in it, so heres my film if you guys would like to and yes i use many of those things you guys have said but again i think a true student film has to be not as professionally done.

also (youtube did something to beginning and a few audio pops for somereason damn youtube.)

Suicide: Gun Against Head - check :).

Should've put a dead whore somewhere, yeah...

Coke?... my protagonist preferred Pepsi, but... doesn't matter anymore.

Several dissolves... it's not that bad...

16. Microphones must be placed, and sound mixed, so that critically important plot-advancing dialog sounds like your actors are gargling with chocolate syrup.

17. Posters of movies the student director finds significant, must be visible in BG at at least one location.

18. Outdoor rifle shots must use indoor pistol sound FX.

I like dissolves, they give me a kind of dreaminess.

Straight cuts and dissolves [here and there]. I don't like fade in\out-s. All else is TV.

Juz wanted to share :).

And...

20. You're the writer, producer, UPM, director, dp, lead male, lead female, boom, editor, sound engineer.
