D40 auto iso help

I'm guessing your primes are not AF primes. I could be wrong, but if you are using them for your 35mm adapter then I'm guessing they are older AI lenses. They will still work and work well. As Jeremy said, they just don't meter or AF. Of course at the start of this thread you were asking about how to adjust for Manual mode so I'm guessing this is not a big deal for you either.

I have a Series E 75-150mm that is all manual and I love it. Like I said before, don't get too upset until you have tried them for a while. As Jeremy said, only AF-S and AF-I lenses will auto-focus & meter. AF lenses will meter but you will have to focus manually....like my 50mm.

Yes, the lenses are AI. I don't have any problem with manual focus.
I managed to enable auto iso :) The problem was that I didn't have the full menu enabled, so I could not get to item # 10. Problem solved. I'm hoping to spend some quality time with the D40 this weekend to see how things go.

Awesome! Let us know how it goes. Remember, just take your time with the manual focus and wait for that solid green light in the bottom left corner!

Thanks for the support, guys. I'll be sure to let you know how it went...and hopefully have the guts to post some pictures.

I took the D40 for a quick spin today and it is starting to grow on me. I used my 28mm f2.8 ais...which became a 42mm and I had some fun. I am definitely sure I'll need something wider though. Since I'd like to be able to use it on my 35mm adapter as well I need something fast and useful...so I was thinking about the
Sigma 18-50mm 18-50mm constant f/2.8. Did anyone use it?

Remember, since you have a D40 you need to buy AF-S (Nikon) or HSM lenses.

If you can afford the Nikons then they are normally better than 3rd party glass, but that being said, I have really enjoyed shooting Sigma glass.

Jeremy, have you ever tried the particular lens I've said? I think it could be a nice compromise between speed, versatility, D40 and 35mm adapter.
