The Mighty Mouse is the worst mouse ever made.

What I hate about almost all mice I've tried is how hard it is to scroll - you have to apply too much pressure, the wheels almost always have this obnoxious stepping action, instead of being smooth like butter.

You might like the Logitech MX Revolution....I just figured out today that there are two scrolling modes- you switch by pressing down on the scroll wheel. One has the usual clicking stepping action as you describe and the other is completely free-gliding butter smooth. You can flick it and it keeps spinning for a good long time - more than 30 seconds. This takes you from the top of a long document to the bottom very quickly.

The scroll action is instantly responsive in both modes as far as I can tell so far. As soon as I move the scroll at all, I see the result on the screen.

Corpse: try the Logitech MX or VX. This is what I've been talking about. You can set it to a completely free setting that is like a completely frictionless steel ball rolling forever. And like I mentioned above, with a simple flip of a switch, you can bring it back to click mode. But it is still a super high quality steel wheel, not a poopoo piece of plastic.

Lol. Devon we said almost exactly the same thing - at the same time. Awesome. And yeah, I finally figured out the scroll setting you were talking about - on accident, about fifteen minutes ago...It's amazing. :)

Oh yea and The new apple keyboard + Mighty mouse = Ergonomic hell.

That keyboard sure is pretty though. While it is a nightmare to type on (I check email in Apple stores occasionally) I have this great urge to buy one because of how pretty it is.

But is there anything else with a 2-D scroll ball? That's what I really miss. The "tilting" just doesn't do it for me...

I dont think so. And you will have that same problem with any mouse that has one. That ball is made out of the same material as mouse under-balls. And gooky under-balls is why they moved to optical mice. Leave it to Apple to be innovative by transplanting the gooky under-ball to the top.

Even when trackballs went to the fancier optical trackballs, the ball-rollers still gooked up.

I have seen these:

but that would be such a switch after 15 years of a single wheel. I dont know if my hand would conform. My hand would probably just ignore the new wheel like it ignores my new buttons.

I've had mine since I got my g4 years ago. Works great. Although the mouse on my g5 is a Dell with a scroll wheel and it does FEEL better.

To anyone left defending the MM, just try playing a first-person shooter with it. ;)

I get them with my new Macs and I chuck them right into a drawer and replace them with whatever Logitech mouse I can get at Circuit City for <$20.
