The IndiMatte...Resistance is futile

Richard that looks awesome, 349 is a sick price!

Hmmmm.... it looks absolut idantical to my India made Mattebox - down to the last nut and bolt.
Including the foam washers and all. Look at the Filterholder, it is the same.<Frenchflag and holder - the same. Even that little pods at the side where the latches for the sideflaps mount at mine. The pods are there at the Indibox but not the latches.

Looks like they take that cheap mattebox and just add the swing out mechanism.

How much do they ask for it?

postmaster, the things you've mentioned are common in a lot of mattebox designs, I use to work with an old cavision mattebox that had looked and functioned just like that, foam inserts and all. Probably both these designs are based off that, there's nothing wrong with that because we're talking about a mattebox, they all have to do the same thing so of course they're gonna be of similar design.

I know, Just noticed that they all seem o come of the same factory in India.
There is nothing wrong with an indian Matebox, I like mine - and the price ($180 including the sidewings and French flag) was nice.

I dont think I would spend that much more for that swing mechanism but to each his own.

You don´t have to baby it, but you have to take a bit care.
The weak point are the threads and bolts- the rest is as good as any other matebox i used.
I ruined 2 of the threads of the sideflaps instantley. Bought some bolts at home depot and re-taped the treads in 10 minutes - e voila!

Oh ja, and I sprayed the whole thing flat black because I dont want that grey plus it reduces the glare even more.

Pimp your Matebox - why not

I use it quite for a while now without problems.

Postmaster, where did you get the sideflaps? All the Indian matteboxes I find on eBay, as well as the indiMatte, don't come with sideflaps. Are the not as necessary as the French flag?

I thought it was going to be a new design by Tim.
It's just like the indian matte box I see around.
$180 including the sidewings and French flag

Cinevate matte box is the same thing.

looks pretty good.

now the question is how to mount that thing with the letus extreme and one set of Cinevate rails?

Depending on your light situation it`s verry nice to have aditional flaps.

They sell that matteboxes in 3 different ebay stores.
Prices and packages are different in those stores also in different countrys.

Sometimes they got a mattebox with rails and sideflags on german Ebay that you wont find on American and vice versa. Sometimes they sell the flaps seperatly.

Do a search, it may save you $100 and since it comes from India anyways it doesn`t matter if you buy it on Ebay Germany or Swiss or whatever.

Hmm....

Slide it on the rails and tighten the screws. That would be my guess.

:D

the questions is more regarded to the minimum distance between the bottom of the IndiMatte rail mount and the lens hole. I.e, how much does everything need to be raised?

For me it all works perfectly. I can raise and lower the matte box to suit the lens I have on the SG Pro. There's plenty of room for the matte to move up. I'm not quite on the lowest setting but almost a centimeter above the minimum.

With regards to the swing out, thats an invaluable feature. Easy access to the lens without having to unscrew and take the matte box off? - Priceless.

Literally just swing the arm out, no unlocking, unscrewing, unbolting. And then plenty of access to get to the lense for cleaning or changing.

I had a Formatt matte box for a year and that was a pain in the butt to take off each time, screw in a new box holder onto the new lense and then clamp it on. I imagine the same for rod mounted matte boxes without a swing out feature - unscrewing the matte box rod clamp and then pulling it off just to change a lens - why? You need speed !

Anyway, as you say each to their own.

My thumbs up and the improvements Tim is making to the actual matte box itself will make it even better.

Cool

Richard

I spoke to Tim again today and he said they're doing a photo shoot of the product tonight. Sounds like Richard's prototype is not *quite* the final product, and it will be available for purchase through the website as of next week sometime. He said he would be on the board sometime this weekend or on Monday to make an official announcement (and hopefully answer questions).

I should have clarified that im using the Letus extreme with the cinevate rails.

Yeah the one he sent was a working prototype, about 90% there. There's some cool modifications to make it even better that Tim had already suggested whilst the prototype was in transit and its a great product already !!

Can't wait for the final pictures !

Richard

From the pictures Richard posted earlier I would say this is basically the same box as the Cinevate Mattebox. The Cinevate includes side flags but doesn't have the swing-out mechanism. Otherwise it looks identical.

Spoke to Tim Today, and Adverse weather caused the shoot to be rescheduled for tomorrow. After the weekend we should start seeing some official images.
