- Will be shot using an HVX200 at default settings
- Grabs will be posted at 1080
- Various Nikon lenses will be tested at every aperture
- Will confirm difference in light loss and grain
- Will post pictures of setups
Yeah but I believe there were some minor technical issues and the grabs were not in 1080. I'm just trying to do a more comprehensive test than what I've seen done.
I was at Tim's test and I think it produced some very useful results, certainly at least for me. But more data points are always welcome, particularly if the setup details are carefully attended to and evenly matched. I'll be looking forward to it.
Make sure you test exposure differences ( light loss) both at f1.4 and f2.8 as the adapters may treat them differently, though this is a big issue with the Brevis but probably not the Letus & SGPro.
Will you be shooting test charts? I hope so. Be very carefull to get the best focus (best compromise on corners & center) on both them before you compare sharpness. Its tricky and may not be ideal just using the autofocus to focus on the GG. I suggest setting up charts and double check your video cameras back focus on the charts themselves once you have a lens up. I don't think that the GG is neccessarily exact for setting Backfocus.
I don't have an SGflip. If I did I would test it. I will backfocus using the stopdown method (turn adapter off, set taking lens to f/16 and focus HVX until grain is sharpest). I promise that the grabs from this test will be the sharpest possible.
I'll shoot whatever test charts I can get my hands on. Also I will shoot at every f-stop to compare light loss at each.
I'm planning on doing it this Saturday, so you'll see something soon.
What is the lens zoom number on an HVX for the SGpro non flip and then for the LEX setups? If one is more zoomed in then the other, the HVX's f-stop increases, correct?
If so, would it not be better to test SGpro flip and LEX, then post results on light loss?
It would be. Unfortunately I dun think he has a flip for the SGpro. That's what I've been sayin' as well: the past few shoot-outs that have been done between the Letus and other adapters are PRE-FLIP.
The Letus FLIPS, so light loss should be factored by the other adapters flip unit, not just the non-flip.
Then again, people are saying the flipped adapters are yielding sharper images and larger ones too, Dennis Said with his flip the size of the image has increase by 20% and it is also sharper, so I still think that it will be a good shoot out even though the SG is not flipped.
The reason the Brevis MIGHT yield a sharper image (which is does with the Flip Unit, that's definitely visible) is because the Achromat's probably too close to the HVX lens in the first place. Pushing it back should yield edge-to-edge sharpness. The distance is even greater with flip units which is probably why it's competing with the stock lens for sharpness.
It's also why the Brevis Flip footage that was posted doesn't have the smear on the right side of the image anymore.
I would definitely agree that it should be an apples-to-apples comparison. I.E Flip Unit to Flipping Unit.
Kholi for the info, I really think the brevis is extremely sharp with the the flip now, but for me I wont mid the flipped image, as long as I have 110 with me for static shots, Ill be viewing on a 22' lcd when stationary, but for run and gun I will keep wide, just got a new 20mm, man it is wide, cant wait to use it!
