Opening Vegas 8 Projects in Vegas 7

Ugh, I am having this really stupid problem. I basically edited my film in Vegas 8 but then wanted to export it from Vegas 7 (please don't ask why, I have some issues with it). So I copied and pasted everything from Vegas 8 to Vegas 7 and saved it and finished editing everything on Vegas 7. Now when I go to open my project, it doesn't open in Vegas 7, only Vegas 8. I uninstalled Vegas 8. This shouldn't happen because I played back everything and finished editing everything on Vegas 7. This shouldn't be an issue but hey, it is. Can anyone help me out here? What do I do?

Also, even though I uninstalled the Vegas 8 and deleted the registry and deleted all its folders, the icons for the projects still appear as though they are Vegas 8 when they are not. ugh! I don't know what to do. Now I am stuck cause I don't have Vegas 8. Only Vegas 7.

Here is what the error message looks like.

When I click ok or X out, it just closes the entire program. Any suggestions guys?

Trying to open projects of any application from a future version is a bad idea. Usually the project formats are updated with new features, and so forward compatibility is not possible.

Forget Vegas 7. You started with 8, you gotta continue with that. Or, re-edit in Vegas 7.

Or, tell us what issues you are having exporting in Vegas 8 and we will try to fix these instead of going backwards and risking the things you risk.

That's the thing, I did re-edit with Vegas 7. I copied and pasted everything from Vegas 8 to Vegas 7 and finished all my editing. I played it back, saved as and everything. I go to open it, and bam, I can't. It's so weird. I have the project opened up right now on Vegas 7. It works fine, but if I save it, and try to reopen it, it doesn't open on Vegas 7. I am not shutting down Vegas 7 until I find out how to do it.

P.S. The Vegas 8 issue is that it didn't give me an option to export to an MPEG. I've tried everything to fix it, I don't want to waste any more time on it.

I think your problem then is that vegas 7 and 8 contradict each other on windows, it's not a good idea to have them both installed at the same time. As for mpeg, it is available on the full retail version of vegas 8.

Are you sure you're trying to open the VEG file you saved from Vegas 7, and not the Vegas 8 VEG file? Did you save a VEG file from Vegas 7? (It's an easy mistake to make if you didn't.)

In any case, it's hard to tell what the problem is from the error message -- could be a corrupted file. Have you tried to open the veg.bak file? If not, try it, but do it from File>Open instead of double-clicking on the icon.

I have had no problems with V7 and V8 (and V6 and V5, for that matter) being installed on the system all at the same time. The MPEG issue probably isn't related to that. Have you contacted Sony about the problem?
