Harmonica: I saw three dusters like that earlier. Inside the dusters were three men. Inside the men were three bullets.

Railroad Tycoon: How does it feel to sit behind that desk Frank.
Frank: I feels like holding a gun--only a lot more powerful.

It's amazing that a movie with such great visual story cues and images and with so little dialog, nonetheless has such memorable lines.

Of all the movies I can think of with the most memorable lines/screen time is The Outlaw Josie Wales: "Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy..."

I think this thread should work the other way around: Post the line, see who can place it. Here's a goofy one, and one which I annoy my wife with all the time (you can use the 2nd half in lots of places if you try)

"Daddy, I'm scared!"
"I know- I can smell it."

I was just watching the Big Sleep again. Among others:

Philip Marlowe: Hmm.
General Sternwood: What does that mean?
Philip Marlowe: It means, hmm.

Philip Marlowe: She tried to sit in my lap while I was standing up.

General Sternwood: You knew him too?
Philip Marlowe: Yes, in the old days, when he used to run rum out of Mexico and I was on the other side. We used to swap shots between drinks, or drinks between shots, whichever you like.

Vivian:
Why did you have to go on?
Marlowe: Too many people told me to stop.

Vivian: You've forgotten one thing - me.
Philip Marlowe: What's wrong with you?
Vivian: Nothing you can't fix.

And then sometimes it's not the line, but the delivery. Like when Bacall sits in the front seat with Bogie and says, completely flat

"Well, I guess I'm in love with you"

From Woody Allen's LOVE AND DEATH--

Sonja: ...Sex without love is an empty experience.
Boris: Yes, but as empty experiences go, it's one of the best.

Anything from The Big Sleep is a great line. My favorite is:

Marlowe: "I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad."

It's a classic. Although To Have and Have Not edges it a little for me as my favorite Bogie/Bacall film. Probably because Bacall sings, it has Hoagy Carmichael, and the plot isn't so dense. But man, they were a great couple.

From THaHN:

Slim: Give her my love.
Steve: I'd give her my own if she had that on!

Slim: I'm hard to get, Steve. All you have to do is ask me.

Slim: What are you trying to do, guess her weight?
Steve: She's heftier that you think.
Steve: Better loosen her clothes.
Slim: You've been doing all right.

Then there's the whole "you know how to whistle" bit

"You know what I'm going to get you next Christmas, Mom? A big wooden cross, so that every time you feel unappreciated for your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it." - Kevin Spacey, 'Lloyd' in "The Ref"

LOVE that quote.

Jack Burton: Would you just stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that.
