FCP -> SDI card -> monitor question

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying my first pro monitor and a card, but since I'm pretty financially strapped, every thing is SD. The monitor being SD is no problem, it's the same that I've used on multiple film sets and it's always worked great with my HVX, but what I'm curious about is hooking it up to my mac pro.

If I get a blackmagic decklink extreme, an SD SDI card, can I play footage that I've shot in HD on the mac and have it appear in SD on the monitor? Will the card handle that? I imagine it will, but I'd love to get some feedback.

If not, can I get some suggestions on a good solution to get all these guys talking to each other?

If all you are looking for is a way to output a signal take a look the Matrox MXO. It's only $100 more than the SD card you mentioned and it outputs HD and SD.

Well i'm looking at buying a used blackmagic, which is the only way i can afford it right now. can't afford more than a couple hundred, at least not right now.

I haven't used it first had, but the website does say that the Intensity Pro will down-convert on the fly.

awesome, these little cards are pretty nice. if i pick one up, then whenever i get an HD monitor then I can keep using the same card. that'll be nice

Oh, I forgot... Will this work alright with the HVX 200? it's got component out but I *think* you can convert that to HDMI for input through the card, right?
