Brevis Flip/ Letus Extreme/ Sony EX1

If it works thats fantastic news and gives us all a sigh of relief. I can feel the wind rushing past my house now from Canada like a loud " phew!" noise! Lol!

Did you need the achromat? I heard you should be able to focus on the GG without it with the HVX. Does the same apply with the EX1?

Cheers
Steve

still awaiting an email from Cinevate so I can order it, and I am on the reserved list as well Dennis! ;)

No, it needs the achromat. Be good if it didn't. That would be incredible edge to edge sharpness!

Just got to try and think where I can film my test tomorrow! somewhere different...

Take a trip into the center. Millions of shoppers in Oxford Street. Or Horseguards Parade/Buckingham Palace?

Yes shame it needs the achromat. What about a spacer instead of the achromat?

Doesn't the EX1 focus down as closely as the HVX?

I don't own the Brevis Achromat, as I have the Redrock one when I owned the M2. Do you know if there is any difference?

Holy crap Phil....you have no idea how "flipped" out I was to hear it didn't work on the EX, particularly after my predictions based on the non-flip setup. The flip is identical either side, and can be used in several different orientations. That's a cold wind of relief here. I can relax a bit this weekend knowing you've got things sorted on that camera. I was looking at the low light/low noise tests comparting the EX1 to the old PD170 and was quite impressed with how good the new one is in low light. Might the EX1 be the low light champion in its class? As an adapter cam, this low light performance is something special.

Btw, our tests with the new "flip" achromat show near perfect edge-to-edge on all cameras tested so far. We spent a lot of time and engineering $$$s to get it that way. The system is so finely optimized to reduce spherical/chromatic aberration, I suspect removing the new flip achromat would actually worsen image quality.

Just wanted to chime in that my friend Cris showed me his Cinevate flip module and I was very impressed at the build quality and optical performance. It's really sturdy, compact and smartly engineered. On his HV20 he had perfect edge to edge illumination and sharpness. I highly recommend it.

heading off to try it out shortly. Just need to find somewhere that doesn't look too similar to places I have already filmed!

Marco, thanks for that. Cris doesn't know it but he's the only HV20 user on the planet right now with the flip module in hand :-) In testing here it works amazingly well on that camera with the CF1 (for small cams) imaging element.
