Photos of Letus extreme + HVX200 and questions on basics

Ah, thanks! I should have know that was Cavision I guess. But I think the design is similar. I thought Cavision was more than $200 though.
How long are your rods? Do you plan to throw a Matte Box on there? I don't really and figured I could go significantly shorter. Like 12 or 15".
thanks again.

Ok, so I looked up the Cavision rails at BH and apparently they are even LESS than $200. That seems like a great deal! Can anyone chime in and explain why the Cinevate or the new Letus Rails would be worth the higher prices? Is it simply because you can't get the Cavision riser high enough to use a Matte Box with the Letus Extreme?

I don't have a matte box (yet) but I think Disjecta uses one, and he uses the cavision rails, opefully he will see this post and chime in. :) So I am not aware of any problems using the rails with a matte box but I could simply have been clueless :)

Do you know if Disjecta uses the Letus Extreme? I think people haven't had any problems except for when trying to use the Extreme, because it is a bit wider. An advantage for the CineVate and Letus over Cavision that I didn't realize Cavision was lacking is the separate mounting plates for camera and tripod, allowing better balancing. One thing I didn't factor into the difference between Letus and Cinevate is the shipping- Letus has free shipping, making the total $350 (if you don't want the extra rods or bracket), and the Cinevate is like $284 to ship (at least to NJ). The problem now with my decision is that Letus takes 2 weeks to ship and CineVate ships now.

ha. really? meaning who? Disjecta isn't Hien. Doesn't matter. hmm so I guess you can use a matte box with the cavision and LEX? Why does everybody ask for Cavision risers then?

Disjecta has done a few demo videos for Letus and Letusdirect, like myself.

Letus will be working on a way of aligning the adaptor to the camera's sensor. This will be very useful for HVX and EX1 users

Shortnstout:

I have the Cavision rods and rail mount with the HVX, LEX and I am using a mattebox. So nyah! ;-) Yes, it can be done. Go to post #90 http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=114048&page=9

Works great although people freak out when they see it and think it's too top heavy, but for tripod use, it's fine. The advantage of the new Letus rails over the Cavision setup is that with the Letus rails you can mount your LEX upside down so the camera is low and the LEX is high. Like the Zacuto setup. And that kicks butt and is a better way to go. But the Cavision works if you get the right setup. Talk to Cavision on the phone, they are good and will tell you which Cavision parts you need, it gets rather complicated.

Here it is: Cavision rails (20 inch long) with LetusX and HVX200 and Red Rock Follow Focus, all perfectly balanced on top of my Sachtler DV6SB heads.

Note that I also did run and gun hand held shots with the same rig (without the FF) a few days ago and all that footage is useable. hehehehehe... And no I do not have a shoulder brace or any kind of mount I just grabbed the rig and shot. It was awkward and heavy but doeable. I used the back of the rails to support the camera, using my hip, or arm to place the rails on and grabbed the end of the rail with left hand, leaving two fingers free to rack focus the 35 mm lens... I am either crazy or real good... But since I have enough sense to know it is not the latter, then it must be the former HAHA (or is it simply beginner's luck?? :) !

Nah Faith, you are just good!

I have done this as well. The extra weight and mass is actually working to your advantage, it makes the camera feel lke a "real" sized camera.

Yes, it's awkward, but it works!
