best shoulder mount to use with HVX200 and M2 Redrock adapter???

There are many different types of shoulder mounts out there, but which one would you guys recommend using for an HVX200 configured with M2 Redrock cinema lens adapter?

The M2 makes the HVX200 quite heavy, at least front heavy, so which shoulder mount adapter should I consider getting with that configuration?

Thanks very much i n advance for any feedback.

I just picked up the DvRig Pro HD for use with an A1 and LetusExtreme. It has a spring loaded support pod which is nice because you can use the whole rig with your fingertips.

I would also talk to Tim at IndiFocs about a rig he has for an adapter setup.

The nice thing about these rigs is you can mount a monitor on the left front handle. Having said that, don't underestimate the difficulty in going handheld with this rig - pulling manual focus up front and controlling iris, etc. on the camera in back. It's tricky

Good luck.

As a big fan of handheld work and as someone who has rented and used the DV Rig proHD on two different projects, I can say that is while it can be useful and handy, there are some drawbacks to it, the first of them being its build quality which is quite mediocre and untrustworthy for long usage, add to that a belt system that is tiresome to the waist.

After some research I came to see and test with my camera this product called the Pag Orbitor: http://www.paguk.com/orbitor.htm

This is at last a solution to a proper handheld need for us HVX users. The system is more expensive. But it belongs to the quality ranks of brands like Tiffen. It is much more versatile and the belt system is made properly. This thing will not break.

My 2c

Cheers.

That's interesting. I am surprised I never came across that in my researching. My only thought is that it seems that it would be very front heavy with an adaptor and lens out front. Also, it is hard to tell if you would have a place to mount a monitor up front (and not on the camera), if you chose to do so.

I do take your point about the build quality on the DvTek rig. I have only had mine two days and a piece of metal has already bent on it. I am using it extensively on a shoot next week and I will definitely have a more informed impression by then.

After using both the DV Rig Pro and Pag, and seeing that both were not up to carrying the loads of a fully rigged 35mm setup, I bought the Cinetech Hip Cam instead.

it is not cheap, but it is light years ahead of either of those two.

I'm using the Cavision handgrips on my Redrock Micro rods and sometimes the Cavision shoulder mount. The KEY things to consider are weight and weight distribution.

.

Hi Chris,

Just checked out all those choices, and Cavision seems it work best for me. Can you tell me how many items I would need to order from Cavision to get a complete shoulder mount package? Thanks in advance,

- Nicholas

I just got my M2 setup and I am using the cavision shoulder "pad" and grips. They work ok, but it's tough to get the camera right over your shoulder. Your arms get tired fast, definitely not something you'd shoot with for a whole day. Overall, for the price, you can't beat it.

What about using the Cavision shoulder mount with just the HVX200 and no M2 adapter. Is the shoulder mount comfortable with just the HVX200?
