Sure I'm thankful in ways I graduated in 06 with a BA in Video Producion so at least I have a job but man talk about boring training videos..I'm manager of video production for small company that produces "how to" vidoes relating to automobiles. Just wondering if I'm the only one. Can't wait to find a more fulfilling job. Maybe I just need to pack up and move to LA..

trip, I was there...stuck for 7 years in a 'video' job where I did very little actually producing...and it seemed like such a treat to actually get out and produce anything! Even training videos. You're not alone.

But, I've moved on to freelancing and that's the life for me :)

Be glad. I'm working a mundane, go nowhere job that has nothing to do with video.

Thanks for the encouraging words horse. You are right I guess I should be glad. It has supplied(salary) me with a lot of cool equipment and hardware. I guess it will be good to have on resume as well.

That is the plan for me hope to one day make a living on freelance work and have my own production company. Sounds like you paid your dues. :) Ofcourse I still have the dream to work in Hollywood someday which I will continue to chase.

you don't need to move to LA. you just need to find cooler clients. my brother and I make local TV commercials in Vermont (not a glamourous job). And we love it because we have clients who allow us to be creative and step outside the box. But its not easy to enjoy yourself if you don't like the thing you're making.

One of the things we ask ourselves before we produce anything is "Is it at all possible that this could be the best thing we've ever made?" If the answer is no then we need to rethink.

We used to have a couple of boring clients but we had to let them go because we couldn't get excited about talking heads. And they couldn't wrap their heads around anything else. I just don't think its possible to do great work unless you're really excited about doing it.

In many ways you can start right now. It seems like you have a job where you have the gear you need to start creating your own content. If your job is boring, that means it is not challenging you or taking all of your creative energy. That's a plus! You can put that energy into your own work.

Do your own thing. Start now. Don't wait for permission or approval. Work nights, weekends. Enter film festivals. Just get busy creating.

You don't need to work in Hollywood to do that. If anything, you have an advantage not being here because you have a different perspective.

Great things come from people working outside the system. You can find your own voice and style. If the day comes that you are working 'in Hollywood', you will be able to make your own, unique contribution.

Good luck.
