NEW 1024x768 HD Monitor

I was just asking if there was one that was exactly 1:1 for 720 and 1080 but now that you put it that way :) I realize that it won't be too critical for when shooting as you'd mostly be in a full screen setting and then quickly crank up the zoom to the close to 1:1 or way past it for a quick focus check...

HD monitor tchd-01b

Hi Luis,

I'm from Singapore and is very interested in your monitor, especially the tchd-01b. May I know if you provide any form of warranty and what kind of after sales support can I expect (Eg. if my monitor breaks down, how long will it takes for the repair, etc)

And what is the possibility of having one send to me by 2nd Jan 2008? What is the shipping cost? You can PM me.

cheers,
eric

Well, I went to the HVXuser meeting and showed my monitor to a few People. Any thoughts from those who saw it? I'd like to get the word out about it and I'd like to get your opinion on it?
Thanks.

I was floored by the looks of this baby... it is massively big and the image is sharp!

Again, sharp sharp sharp, lots of pixels, tremendous difference from the marshal to the Carrion... An other HUGE difference is the angle of view which hurts you deeply when you go from the Carrion over to a Marshall... The added rez is completely evident when you are pulling focus. It feels like a much better representation of what you are getting if you are hoping for Blue Ray out, the Marshall in turn feels and looks 480, the Carrion is simply a different breed...

The COLOR!!! The color looks ridiculously great, I was stoked to see that! I kept looking at the subject and then down to the monitor, then back up and down again... comparing all the colors, the grrens, purples in the flowers, the light blue of the pool and the whites of a plastic chair... the soil and a red sweater I took off and put in front of the camera... I looked at skin tones and everything I could and could not say anything bad about the color at all. The calibration obviously works!

Luis showed us the menus which are easily accessed from the big buttons on the side. I didn't delve much into the options I just wanted to see them working but the menu seems easy as pie to use, especially the flip which if I am not mistakes was achieved with three (or two?) clicks. Anyway, I think he said he will be getting firmware updates soon which shows his continued commitment and the performance is all there... everything he said it can do it does, and it does it GREAT. I feel it is a safe investment. Well that's if you trust him, I do. I want one for sure, I have no doubts he will follow through, in fact I know about a little surprice he hasn't announced :D which makes it clear that he is serious about LS Design and he will make a lot of us happy, now I just need the money so I can give it to him.

It is big so get a good arm. Also get his custom battery mounting brackets, if you were thinking of rigging something up yourself just go with these they look as sharp as the monitor and the overall the manufacturing of all the parts gives you that feeling of exacting machining, and it has that pro look all over it. Great looking gear. That's so vain of me to say but it sure will have a big impact on clients.

It looks tough as hell too... I was going to throw it around a bit to test but I better come up with the cash before I did something like that :D

So in short, the image is everything I was hoping for it to be and I feel it will work brilliantly as a location laptop CC monitor though the DVI port. I think in terms of color it will perform very well against decent production monitors.

So now I cannot see myself shooting HD without it. So Luis, I hate you... more Cup o' Noodles are waiting for me...

Eljoninjo,
Throw Component? if you are asking if the image on the monitor was from the HVX through the Component High Definition Output (RGB) then yes it was. :)

Tomk358,
Showing the Carrion at NAB08? not sure, I guess it depends on how many sales I get before it and how much it cost to show up there. I've sold a monitor to Redrock and they will surely have it at their booth (as they did at DV Expo) Their take on it is that it makes their footage look better than the Marshall or the Ikean. So they rather show it through my monitor.
Same footage just better delivery. Plus the wide viewing angle really helps when they have 5-10 people lined up infront of their setup. the two guys at the end still see a really good image, as opposed to the other monitors where it starts fading the further you get.

Sounds promising!
"USLatinContent" Just double checking, was it HVX200 throw component?

Yea, it was RGB, the best output on the HVX.

The cable included with the camera works perfectly for on board applications, just long enough just short enough. Definitely included by Pana in hows we would buy on-camera monitors likely cause they realized how crappy the built in LCD is... it BLOWS in comparison to having an on-camera... there is so much missing there that it saddens me not to be able to buy one now... It is like shooting blind... a real bad feeling...

before with the Marshall being the top dog in the price range I didn't feel so bad, it kida sucked that if you were not looking straight on you wouldn't see anything and I couldn't afford the luxury... now it feels like a tool I must get, it is a must buy for me... the impact it would have is too big to ignore...

BTW! the angle of view is a BIG factor Siniarch... you mentioned it over and over, and I understood how big of a deal it was, but I didn't have an idea of how big of a difference it would be from the Marshall to the Carrion till I saw how flawlessly yours displays all the way to the limits of the incredibly wide angle... by the time the Carrion's image stops showing you are looking at a sliver of the screen anyway, and there would be no point of it displaying further cause there is no way to benefit from looking at the screen at those angles anyways... so it basically shows from anywhere you look period.

BTW, if I had the money I would have been glad to get a Marshall, of course... but regardless of all the footage I shot without proper monitoring I feel I am lucky in a way that I didn't cause now I can get a whole new level of "proper" :D

Hey,
Can anyone do me a favor. I've been asked by some people at DVinfo to post about my monitor so those users can find out about my product. Unfortunately, those guys are super strict about advertising. Therefore my post was deleted. I'd like to pass the word around so people other than DVXusers know there is a new alternative, but I just can't afford to advertise there as well. :(
So, if you have seen the monitor and liked it. (only if you like it. hahahha. just kidding) can you post at DVinfo.net if you are a member there as well.
Thanks,
Luis

modified: a link to this thread and my web site would also be a good idea. Thanks.

Hey Luis, Hi its Jon From dvexpo, I had the 105 nikon prime the we were trying out on the hvx+m2 at the show. Let me just tell everyone that these monitors are stellar. I really wished we tried it out on the EX there just to put a better image than the HVX. Let me tell any possible buyers that this thing is the way to go, I am currently saving for a 35mm adapter, but once that is done, a C will be on its way to me, and then the Red-mini :)

Jon

Mcgeedigital,
I'm working on all the accessories, but they will take me a little bit. I've alreade sold a few, and I will be shipping tomorrow the first units of the first batch.
So the add ons will come as fast as I can get them out. and I will update my web site.
Thanks for your interest.
Luis

Just a quick update.

This past Wednesday, I was helping Brian of RedRock Micro at the Mole Richardson Studios in Hollywood with a shoot he was producing.

The writer and director was none other than Charles Papert, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0660435/ the camera op was Rick Drapkin http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0237196/ , and there were a few other working professionals on set as well. The shoot was meant to show the M2 being used with the New Sony Ex camera (which I might add is a nice combination. Though the EX exhibited some vignetting which it has been reported to have and has been recalled for), but I was there to help and to see my Carrion in Action.

We connected the Carrion through HD-SDI from the Sony and man, what a picture. Rick was impressed. He is used to using Astros http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/489105-REG/Astro_Systems_WM_3007_WM_3007_8_HD_SD_Portable.html
and he seemed to really like mine. In fact he is thinking of purchasing one for himself. Once I told him the introductory price his jaw dropped.

Anyway, here are some pics of the set and the setup.

oh yeah, almost forgot. Big Thanks to Matty_G for helping out as well. You can seem him in some of those pictures.

Hi Luis:

Very impressive shoot. How do the run times compare between the two Panasonic batteries versus the big Tekkeon? Which way would you advise? I only have four of the CGD54s for my HVX and I usually use 2-3 of them for a full day shoot but I also have the Anton Bauer Elipsz which I can run the HVX all day from. So I guess I would be ahead of the game if I powered the Carrion with the Pannys?

Dan

Hey Siniarch... what's the EDIT: word on the pricing?

I remember you let us know at the LA HVX meeting that the introductory price will be ending soon. I do NOT want to miss out... maybe a deposit?

Anywho... please update us on that if you can. It seems a Carrion is in my future!!!!!!
And if the price will change well then I'll just have to get it earlier :D
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Dan,

Yes, it was a pretty cool shoot.

As for batteries, I like both setups. The 2 Panasonic ones, when using DVXUser Batteries with 5600mHa give me between 4-5hrs. This particular shoot, we had to change batteries once. and the shoot ran from 6am til 6pm
The tekkeon last around 2.5hrs per battery.

But the reason I like both is because it depends on what I'm doing. If I'm tripod, I'd probably use the Panasonic. it just makes it so much simpler with HVX batteries all the way.

But if I'm shoulder mount I like some weight behind the camera rather than more weight up front. So I use the Tekkeon and put them on my rails behind the camera.

Also if Steady Cam, the monitor is too heavy with the batteries to be on one side of the sled. I need batteries and some extra weight on the other side of the sled. So I use the Tekkeon for that as well.

UsLatin,

Yes, this is still the introductory price. I will be raising the price pretty soon.

As you know its a steal at the moment. and even after raising the price it will be an amazing deal. Nothing with that resolution, Image quality, Inputs, Viewing angle, and functions exists for even close to my prices. You have to shell about $4000 to be comparing it to mine. (obviously these 4k models also come with waveform monitors which mine don't. but image wise its about the same as mine)

So if you are thinking about it, get it now and save, but know that if you get it at the regular price, you will still be getting a bargain.

Philip,

Yes, these things are already selling like hot cakes. Still debating about distribution through retailers. I already have EVS, ProHD Rentals, and Perhaps Birns & Sawyer interested in carrying it. But not sure if I'll go that route.
