Versatile Shotgun for run and gun shoot?

Greetings all,
After reading through all shotgun mic discussions I have a question. I will be the sound recorder on a run and gun low budget horror movie. I have an AKG CK93 on the way for interiors and I'm looking for a outdoor shotgun option. The director flew into town and we did location scouting. The CK93 should work well on the interiors, wooden floors with throw rugs etc.. I don't have very good Lav's and would like a shotgun with a bit of reach. How would this sound to you guys. I can get the CK98 for Mid range outdoor stuff (2-8) and maybe a AT4071a or SM89 for longer? Would the 414 be a good option?

My main gig is post, I'm a Protools guy and have taken some of the clips I've found here and have had fun working with them. For those who use PT, the Waves SSL Channel strip makes the ME-66 sound real close to the 414... and the wave arts Noise stuff is pretty good, though I can't wait for the new iZotope stuff to become RTAS..

Any input would be appreciated. My budget can stretch to say $1200.
Thx

There is no mic on the market that will give good clean dialog recording 8 feet from the subject. Now if you're looking at 2 to 4 feet there's hope (though even 4 feet is getting pretty iffy), but much beyond that and lavs will be your only option.

there is no problem get dialog from 8 feet - any normal shotgun would do it , the problem get very unreverb and quit space as the desert :-)
in films the headroom for normal shots is much less then the 8 feet but that's not cover the problems you have with shadows where no mic could work
better get a wireless or 2 to compensate sound where you cant go overhead with directional mic

Would you say the Sanken's over all sound/rejection properties outweigh any advantage of the AKG being able to change between the short/long gun?
Thanks for the reply...

yes, but if you have money for the 416 why not to buy better and more versatile mic
with $ euro exchange rates the sanken became not only the best imp short shotgun but also the best bang for the buck for over a grand mic
we have bout any mic in our rentals - i dont use anything more then that one

Thanks for all the info. I'm getting US prices for the mic as we speak. I'm waiting to hear back from the guy that has the AKG pair new to see if he would drop his price to below $1000..
Thx
